Motorola IT6 -2 Review

Author by

PROS / The phone stores 30 minutes of recorded messages, which is longer than other cordless phone.

CONS / It doesn’t have Bluetooth.

VERDICT / The Motorola IT6 -2 performs well and looks great; however, it is missing some important features like Bluetooth and doesn't have good battery life.

If you have ever had a Motorola Slvr or Razr cell phone, this cordless phone will seem quite familiar to you. Motorola's IT6-2 is the company's sleek and modern take on the cordless phone. The device comes with a standard of two handsets, but you can add an additional two more. Its strong performance and robust voicemail and contact features earn the IT6-2 our Top Ten Reviews Bronze Award for cordless phones.

Handset Performance

Though Motorola claims that each handset’s charge lasts for five and a half days, our testing revealed that it only lasted one day while off of the base. We didn’t use the handset during that time – it was completely idle – which means that the battery life is worse when you actually use the handsets.

However, the IT6-2’s handsets charged much faster than any other phone on our lineup. To reach a full charge, the handset needed a mere three hours, much shorter than the average of about seven hours.

In our testing, the IT6-2 maintained a strong connection to the base with very high quality, up to a certain distance. At 250 feet from the base, the call began to skip a little. It wasn’t terrible, but it was noticeable. Other phones we reviewed performed somewhat better in this respect.

Device Details

The best part of this phone is its overall design. The handsets are incredibly thin, comfortable to hold and easy to use. The display is bright and easy to read. We noticed that placing the handset in the base can be tricky at times – the handset doesn’t always line up properly with the charging coils, and it doesn’t begin charging until you align it. This is a minor issue but can be annoying.

Where the IT6-2 falls flat is its list of features. Compared to other phones in our review, it is missing a lot of functionality. The phone has conferencing and an intercom, but it doesn’t have Bluetooth. As such, there is no way to pair your cell phone or a wireless handset to the base. It also doesn't have an alarm. You can adjust the volume to five different levels.

Voicemail & Contacts

The phone can store an impressive 30 minutes of recorded messages. That’s more than any other phone we reviewed by a wide margin. The next-closest phone only records 18 minutes. If you prefer to keep messages rather than delete them, this could potentially be a great phone for you.

The phone stores a total of 100 phonebook entries and the 50 previous callers. In addition, it stores the last five numbers you dialed so that you can quickly redial them later on.

Help & Support

The phone includes a one-year warranty. You can read Motorola's FAQs section online and download an instruction manual on its website. The company offers telephone, email and live chat support.

Summary

The Motorola IT6-2 may look great, but it doesn't have an impressive battery life and doesn't pair with a smartphone. However, if you want a cool looking phone that is a decent performer or you just really miss your old Motorola Razr or Slvr, it may be the right cordless phone for you.
