Pros / Its impressive range reaches up to 160 feet indoors and 980 feet outdoors.

Cons / It has small buttons.

Verdict / While the Motorola P1003 doesn’t have a lengthy list of features, what it has works well.

While the Motorola P1003 isn’t quite as versatile as the best cordless phones we reviewed, its solid performance and slick design make it a viable option. You won’t find Bluetooth compatibility or other advanced functionality here, but the P1003 is a reliable cordless home phone nonetheless.

The P1003 has great range, keeping a connection up to 160 feet away from the base indoors, and 980 feet outdoors. However, the indoor range isn’t as large as some other units we reviewed.

Because of its relative simplicity, the P1003’s interface is easy to use. However, it does have small buttons on the handsets. It also has a few design quirks like the mute button being right above the call button, which may result in an unintentionally ended call or two. Each handset’s buttons are also backlit, making it easier to use at night or in low-light environments. The phone’s blue and black design is easy on the eyes.

The P1003 ships with three handsets, so you can spread them across your home or office space, or rotate through them as one dies and needs to be recharged. The system can be expanded to include as many as five handsets, though each extra handset must be purchased separately. With its built-in intercom, it’s easy to talk with other people in your home, even if they’re on the other side of the house.

You can store up to 50 contacts in the P1003’s memory. That’s the average number of contacts for the cordless phones we reviewed, but you may run out of space if you’re constantly making new friends. The best landline phones in our review can store as many as 200 contacts. With this phone, you can also store up to 30 caller ID entries and keep 15 minutes of recorded voice messages.

Summary

The Motorola P1003 may not be the very best home phone on the market, but there’s a certain appeal to its simplicity. This is a cordless phone that just works. It has most of the basics and a sleek design that is decently easy to use. Despite having small buttons that may not be ideal for those with vision problems, it does have an appealing design that complements modern homes.
