Whirlpool Whispure AP51030K review: features

The Whirlpool Whispure is capable of cleaning large rooms of up to 490 square feet using the formula developed by the Association of Home Appliance Manufacturers. This makes the Whispure the best air purifier for large rooms out of all the models we reviewed.

However, you can still use this air purifier in small rooms; you don't have to worry about it being too powerful for a certain room in your house. Its CADR scores are the highest among all the purifiers in our review, which means it's the most effective at removing smoke, dust and pollen from indoor air.

This air purifier also makes nearly five air changes every hour, which means all of the air in the room is pushed through the machine every 12 minutes or so. This makes the purifier ideal for those who suffer from allergies or other breathing-related problems, as it pulls pollutants out of the air regularly.

This air cleaner uses HEPA filters, which are designed to catch the smallest particulates from the air. However, the Whirlpool Whispure only has two cleaning stages, or filters, to remove particulates from the air. Other machines we reviewed use up to six cleaning stages to remove more pollutants with each pass.

The purifier does have a sleep mode, allowing you to use it in your room at night without disturbing your sleep. This option can also save energy, as the machine doesn't draw as much power in this mode. Unfortunately, the machine lacks an auto mode, which would automatically adjust the settings based on the air quality in your room to save you energy and effort.

The machine doesn't have an ionizer either, which is an extra cleaning stage, but some people prefer purifiers without this feature, as it emits trace amounts of ozone.

Whirlpool Whispure AP51030K: performance

Despite the Whirlpool Whispure's raw power, it isn't the largest air purifier we reviewed, so you won't have much trouble finding a place in your home to keep it. However, it is the heaviest one, weighing in at nearly 20 pounds. Fortunately, the air cleaner has built-in handles that make it easier to move around the house.

One of the best design elements of this machine is that it is the quietest air purifier we reviewed. The Whirlpool Whispure only produces up to 55 dB of noise on its highest setting, which is impressively low. To give you a frame of reference, a whisper usually registers around 30 dB, while a ringtone can reach 80 dB.

The Whirlpool Whispure comes with a timer that allows you to set specific times for it to start or stop operating. This is especially useful if you want to run the machine during the day while you are work. This air purifier also has a filter monitor to let you know when to replace the HEPA filters.

Replacing the filters regularly is important, as old filters aren't as effective at removing pollutants from your home. Unfortunately, this air cleaner does not come with a remote control, which is a convenient feature that saves you a walk across the room to adjust settings.

Whirlpool offers an impressive five-year warranty on this air purifier, which protects you from manufacturer defects. This is the longest warranty in the industry, so you don't have to stress if your machine starts having a few issues a couple years after you purchase it.

You can contact the company through email or over the phone, but it does not offer live chat support. If you misplace your copy of the owner's manual, you can go to Whirlpool's website to find an online version.

Whirlpool Whispure AP51030K review: verdict

The Whirlpool Whispure is Energy Star verified, which indicates that it meets specific energy usage requirements and consumes less energy than many other models. On its maximum settings, the Whispure pulls 102 watts, so it isn't the most energy-efficient purifier we reviewed, but we estimate it will still add less than $40 a year to your electrical bill.

This air cleaner has every certification we look for, including AHAM, ARB and UL-Listed marks. An AHAM verification indicates the machine received its CADR scores by following AHAM's testing standards and procedures. Without this verification, the CADR scores may have been reached through alternative means.

The ARB certification indicates the purifier doesn't damage the air quality, according to the California Air Resources Board. The UL-Listed mark means the product was tested by a third-party organization and meets certain safety standards.

The Whirlpool Whispure AP51030K is one of the best air cleaners we reviewed because of its powerful cleaning capabilities. This purifier boasts the best CADR scores out of all the ones we reviewed, which means it is the best at removing indoor pollutants and particulates from your home. It does lack a couple of convenient features, such as an auto mode and a remote control, but this is a solid machine that has no trouble cleaning the air even in large rooms.
