The Whirlpool Gold WDT720PADM dishwasher has five wash cycles, including an eco-friendly sensor wash. The sensor wash uses a soil sensor to test the turbidity of water during a cycle and adjusts the cycle accordingly. This unit is certified by ENERGY STAR and has an estimated annual operating cost of $31.
The five cycles include a normal, heavy, one-hour wash, sensor wash, and soak and clean cycle, which are standard cycles for dishwashers. While the dishwasher lacks some specialty cycles, including a top or bottom rack only cycle, it has a silverware spray that concentrates water specifically on the silverware to remove dried-on food. The dishwasher offers two types of drying options: air and heated.
This integrated dishwasher holds a high capacity of dishes. You can put up to 15 place settings in the dishwasher on its two racks. With adjustable racks and fold-down tines, you can adjust the interior of the dishwasher to hold more dishes or ones that are odd-shaped.
This built-in dishwasher has several convenience features. It has a 24-hour delay start timer that you can use to run cycles during off-peak hours. This feature helps reduce energy costs. The unit also has a status light, a child lock and hidden touch-sensitive controls. These features help you view the status of the cycle at a glance and prevent anyone from disrupting the cycle.
This is one of the only units in our lineup that is not a stainless steel dishwasher. Instead, the tub is made out of plastic. As such, the dishwasher is louder when running. It measures at 51 decibels, which is higher than most of the other dishwashers we reviewed. The unit also has a manual filter that requires you to clean it regularly.
Whirlpool offers a limited warranty for this unit. The labor, parts, racks, electronics, tub and door liner are only covered for one year after you purchase it, making it the shortest warranty coverage offered in our lineup. To contact Whirlpool, you can call, email or speak with a representative on live chat.
The Whirlpool dishwasher only offers basic cycle and wash options. While its silverware spray feature cleans utensils with ease and it has eco-friendly washing and dry options, its short warranty and lack of features make it a less desirable machine.
