PROS / The publisher provides 24/7 live chat support, which is most unusual for a product category where the norm is technical support via email only.
CONS / It does not import passwords from competing products. However it isn't difficult to capture passwords on the fly.
VERDICT / Keeper is unusual in that it supports Blackberry and Windows Phones in addition to iOS and Android devices. Furthermore, it offers better support than the industry norm.
Editor's note: A newer version of this product is available. The manufacturer lists the new version as offering the following features: access from your Apple Watch; shared folders; and logout timer control. We will evaluate, rank and review the new version of this product when we next update the Password Management Software reviews.
Keeper Backup Unlimited does a beautiful job of capturing and saving passwords so that you can login securely without having to retype your usernames and passwords. It also stores any items that you might want to secure. It is an excellent product that supports almost every feature associated with the best password managers. It outshines most competitors with its customer service and support for mobile devices.
Keeper supports all of the important features in common with the best password managers. You can capture passwords on the fly or generate fresh passwords. Keeper can store the personal data you need to auto-fill online forms. You can synchronize your passwords across platforms and access your passwords from anywhere. You can share passwords. Keeper also organizes and stores files and photos in a secure vault. Another strong security feature that Keeper shares with all of the password software products in our review is that if you lose your master password, the publisher of Keeper does not have it and therefore cannot give it to you. What’s missing is the ability to import passwords from competing products and the ability to organize password lists into categories based on identity (personal vs work identity for example).
Almost half of the password management software in our review do not support multifactor authentication methods, which introduce an additional step to the typical username and password login. For example, it might require you to type in a one-time code that you receive by text or email. Keeper does support such a thing and its passwords are strong and encrypted.
Keeper supports more operating systems than usual for the password management market. Of course it runs on Windows and Mac OS. But it also supports Linux and Windows RT. Regarding browsers, Keeper supports Internet Explorer, Firefox, Chrome, Opera and Safari. In a market where most of Keeper’s competition supports just iOS (iPad and iPhone) and Android devices, Keeper extends support to Blackberry and Windows Phone.
The norm for password manager software publishers is support by email only. Keeper clients, however, have 24/7 live chat access to customer support. Enterprise and group customers also have telephone access.
Keeper Backup Unlimited is well suited to replace your manual password management methods with one that conveniently automates the process and encourages stronger passwords and secure habits. It provides an encrypted depository for all digital files, not just passwords. The application is a pleasure to use, and customer service is second to none.
