The Philips Avent Smart baby monitor SCD860 is a Wi-Fi video baby monitor that makes keeping an eye on your little one easier than ever. You hook up the camera to your home wireless connection and use your cell phone or tablet with the Philips Avent uGrow app to monitor your child. That wireless connection to the camera means you can check on your child's room wherever you are, as long as you have your phone or tablet and an internet connection. You can also take photos of your baby and check on the temperature or humidity of their room from the app. Although this monitor was difficult for some of our testers to hook up initially, it still received the Top Ten Reviews Silver Award for best video baby monitor thanks to its many strengths.

We experienced a few moments of video and audio lag with this Wi-Fi baby monitor. With the Wi-Fi connection, some lag is to be expected, but no more than about a second. In one test, we saw smooth movement and heard clear audio one moment, and then the image froze for a few seconds. This could cause some concern when you're listening and watching for any sign that your baby needs you.

The resolution is one of the best of the video baby monitors we tested. This gives you a crisp image whether you use the small screen of your cell phone or the larger iPad. The ability to use a larger device, such as a tablet, makes it easier to view multiple cameras at once. The Philips Avent Smart baby monitor SCD860 allows you to connect up to 10 cameras at once, but you have to buy those cameras separately.

Controlling the camera from the app is as easy as swiping the screen, so you can zoom in on your baby for a closer look or pan across the room to see more to the left or right. Although you cannot record video from the Philips Avent uGrow app, you can take snapshots and save them to your phone or tablet. Also, because you're using a smartphone or tablet, you get touchscreen abilities, which makes navigating the menus intuitive.

A few of our testers had lots of trouble setting up this monitor's camera and app to make it work with their home Wi-Fi connections. The setup process is easy enough, but if the camera doesn't connect to your wireless connection, you can't use the camera. However, one of the testers had success setting up the camera and app on the second try.

Afterward, operation of the app was easy. We were able to set up notifications and adjust the sound sensitivity so we'd know when there were loud or soft cries from the other room. These push notifications come through on your device regardless of what you're doing, so you can continue using your device for other apps.

We experienced a few connection issues with our successful setups that had nothing to do with our home Wi-Fi connections, which could cause concern. For several moments, we had no connection to the camera, so we had no idea what was going on in the other room.

This smart video baby monitor lets you keep an eye on your baby's room temperature and humidity, and you can set up notifications to let you know when the room is too warm or cold or the humidity is too high or low. You can also mount the camera to a wall so you can save space and still control the camera from your phone or tablet.

The camera has a warm nightlight with several different colors that you can choose from the app. And if your baby is fussy, you can talk to them from the monitor or soothe them with one of the 10 lullabies included with the app.

If you find that your video baby monitor is defective, you are protected by a two-year warranty from Philips, which is the best warranty of all the video baby monitors we tested.
