Amazon Prime Day has been and gone for another year, leaving us to look back at what went down in 2019 and start casting an eye ahead to Prime Day 2020.
There's no denying that Prime Day 2019 was a big success – both for Amazon and for consumers eager to snap up a great deal.
The bargain bonanza saw the retailer sell more than 175 million products across just 48 hours in July, which is more than it managed to shift on Black Friday and Cyber Monday combined last year.
The quality of deals was generally strong, too, with research by price monitoring company Minderest revealing that over 80% of products sold by Amazon were cheaper on Prime Day than they were anywhere else.
With that in mind and Prime Day 2019 still very much in the rear-view mirror, let's take a look at what to expect from next year's Amazon summer deals extravaganza.
Best Amazon Prime Day deals – what to expect in 2020
As we anticipated, many of the best deals were on Amazon's own products, notably Echo smart speakers, Kindle e-readers, and Fire TV devices. Plenty of other awesome tech was heavily discounted, though, including TVs, headphones, fitness trackers, smartphones and laptops – even some Apple products were spied in the bargain bin on Prime Day!
As we look ahead to 2020, 4K TVs are especially worth keeping an eye on, as the once exclusive technology's assimilation into the mainstream means prices should continue to fall next year.
Similarly, the start of another generation of console wars – new Xbox and PlayStation systems are expected to launch in time for Christmas next year – should see the likes of the PS4, Xbox One, and maybe even Nintendo Switch discounted heavily come Prime Day 2020.
Outside of electronics, mattress deals were particularly strong this year, and there were also some seriously sweet grocery offers on Prime Day. Shoppers snapped up great prices on organic strawberries, cherries, and blueberries via the retailer's Whole Foods Market subsidiary, proving that Prime Day is about much more than just big ticket gadgets.
