We've researched the latest air purifiers, asked the experts, and sifted through thousands of specs, features and user reviews to find the best air purifiers. Here's everything you need to know about the Blueair Blue Pure 211+.
Blueair Blue Pure 211 Plus: What is it?
The Blueair Blue Pure 211+ is a powerful, high-performance air purifier from established Swedish brand Blueair. Designed for medium to large-sized rooms, it’s notable for its vibrant colour palette and impressive specs: the Blueair Blue Pure 211+ boasts a reach of up to 540 square feet and very impressive CADR ratings.
Filters: 3 - washable prefilter, particle and activated carbon filter
Auto mode: N
Max power use: 61W
Noise: 31-56 dB
CADR: 350 dust,
350 smoke, 350 pollen
Coverage (sq ft): 540
That's even more impressive when you consider that the Blue Pure range sits closer to the budget end of the company’s world-class product catalogue than the premium end.
It’s also super energy-efficient, using about as much energy as a lightbulb. And while it doesn’t have a True HEPA filter, Blueair claims its own unique particle filter matches the performance of True HEPA filters.
Size-wise, it's relatively portable for an air purifier that handles large rooms. It isn’t as big as you might expect, measuring 13 x 13 x 20 inches, and weighing in at just 13 pounds – so it’s not too much of an effort to move it from room to room as you need it.
Blueair Blue Pure 211 Plus: Price
The Blueair Blue Pure 211+ costs $299.99. That places it around the mid-range for air purifiers, but it’s easy to find good deals for it online. We've seen it on sale for $100 cheaper on both Amazon and Walmart.com.
Blueair Blue Pure 211 Plus: Features
The Blueair Blue Pure 211+ uses a three-stage filter system that's particularly well-suited for pollution and allergen capture. A pre-filter captures larger particles, such as pet hair and dust – protecting the other filters from these larger particles. When the filter starts to become clogged, you can either wash it or vacuum it for a quick clean.
While most top-rated air purifiers, such as the Rabbit Air MinusA2 and the Honeywell HPA300, come with a True HEPA filter due to its exceptional cleaning ability, the Blue Pure 211+ instead is fitted with Blueair's own particle filter. This uses HEPASilent technology to combine mechanical and electrostatic filtration, making it able to capture particles as small as 0.1 microns in diameter.
According to Blueair, the Blue Pure 211+ matches the performance rating of any HEPA-fitted air purifier and makes it a great device for asthma and allergy sufferers.
Finally, the last filter is an Activated Carbon filter – housed inside the Particle filter – which captures smoke, odors, gases, VOCs and other lung irritants.
Design-wise, the Blueair Blue Pure 211+ stands out from Blueair’s previous, rather box-shaped air purifiers. The prefilter is actually the colored fabric set on the outside of the device, and it’s available in black, blue, yellow, grey, and pink, so you can pick the color that best matches your home. Also, as an extra bonus, the colour means you can easily see when the filter needs to be cleaned.
One of the reasons why Blueair’s Blue series is more affordable than some of the company's other ranges is you won't find any additional features in the Blue Pure 211+. There's no air sensor and no timer, which is a shame because other air purifiers in the same price bracket, such as the Coway Airmega 200M, do have these features. That's fine if you want a powerful purifier that just purifies air. But if you want automatic cleaning adjustments, or an overview of the air pollution in your home, this device isn’t for you.
Blueair Blue Pure 211 Plus: Performance
Testing on TechGearLab found that the Blueair Blue Pure 211+ performed brilliantly. After 45 minutes in a smoky testing room, it had reduced airborne particulate counts by 99.95 per cent. It held that level until the end of the team's hour-long test.
Noise testing showed the Blue Pure 211+ to be one of the quietest air purifiers TechGearLab tested, only slightly pipped by the Coway AP-1512HH. However, the team did find the Blue Pure 211+ to have high lifetime operating costs, which was the biggest negative against this purifier.
Blueair Blue Pure 211 Plus: User reviews
On Amazon, the Blueair Blue Pure 211+ air purifier averages at 4.3 out of 5 stars, across over 400 reviews. It's a similar story at Walmart, where it scores 4.6 out of 5 stars, over nearly 100 reviews.
User reviews rave about its powerful cleaning capabilities – its ability to remove bad odors as well as its effectiveness against mold and dust, in particular. Many people say they've been able to see a reduction in dust across their furniture since using it.
Bear in mind that a few users have noticed a chemical offgassing smell. However, these were in the small minority of complaints. Most reviewers appear very happy with their purchase.
A number of reviews commented on how they bought this air purifier to help with their air quality during wildfire seasons and were thrilled with its effectiveness. They also comment on how quiet the device is, with the little noise it does produce to be consistent and like white noise.
Should you buy the Blueair Blue Pure 211 Plus?
Impressive performance in a light, but stylish build make the Blue Pure 211+ a top air purifier pick. There’s not too much difference between a True HEPA filter and Blueair’s own particle filter, so that shouldn’t be a problem. However, its lack of sensor and auto mode, alongside higher operating costs, is a little disappointing at this price point.
Nevertheless, when it comes to air purification, the Blue Pure 211+ outperforms a lot of other air purifiers in its price bracket, despite their additional bells and whistles. So while it may not be the most feature-packed air purifier on the market, it is extremely efficient at cleaning away airborne particles, and very powerful to boot.
