The Earthwise electric string trimmer (model ST00013) is a dual-line electric weed trimmer that has high speed. Although it's one of the heavier products we reviewed, it still does a good job of trimming weeds and grass. It's one of the only trimmers we reviewed that has a safety switch to ensure it only starts when you're ready.
The Earthwise electric string trimmer is meant for light-duty lawn work; however, it's well prepared for it with a speed of 9,500 rotations per minute (RPMs) and 4.5 amperes (amps). This means you'll have more speed than what you'll find in many electric weed trimmers and enough power to chop down weeds and trim your grass.
To help you get your job done quickly, the electric weed trimmer has dual line feed. This means that there are two lines rotating around the head of the trimmer. The string the electric weed trimmer uses is the standard 0.065-inch line.
The electric weed trimmer comes with two handles to help you keep control over where you're trimming. All the trimmers we reviewed have this feature. It also has an edge guard that comes with a pre-installed spool. Another nice feature is the safety switch that comes on the Earthwise electric string trimmer to make sure you don't accidentally start the trimmer before you're ready. The cord-retention hook in the handle allows you to wrap the extension cord around it so the cord won't come unplugged from the electric weed eater.
This electric string trimmer weighs 8.5 pounds, which is more than a pound heavier than the other electric string trimmers we reviewed. It's not really any bigger than the other trimmers. The cutting diameter is 13 inches, which is about the cutting diameter of the other electric weed eaters as well. Additionally, the pole extends to 43 inches, which is a little more than 3.5 feet. This is about as long as the other trimmers we reviewed too.
The shaft on this trimmer is straight. Having a trimmer with a straight pole instead of curved one is an advantage because you can reach under low decks and other hard-to-reach places that curved-pole trimmers wouldn't be able to tackle. To enable you to get the best trimming angle, the head adjusts into three different positions.
The electric string trimmer doesn't require you to use any tools to change the spool in the machine. One thing that may make using this electric weed eater less convenient is the fact that it doesn't extend beyond about 3.5 feet. If you are tall, this weed trimmer may be uncomfortable to use if you have a large yard. It is also, as we stated above, a heavier product than others we reviewed. While 8.5 pounds is not that much, it can feel heavier if you have a large job to complete.
If you have questions about your electric weed eater, you can email the manufacturer or call customer service. When we talked to customer service on the phone, they had the product in front of them that they looked at to verify that were answering our questions accurately.
