The Weber Genesis II LX E-340 is one of the best infrared gas grills in our lineup. However, it has a secret: Its grilling system does not use a true infrared burner. Fortunately, its High+ heat setting produces results equal to or better than those of the other infrared grills in our review.

The Genesis II LX series uses Weber's GS4 high performance burners to achieve infrared grilling results. These burners come with a unique High+ heat setting that produced consistent sear marks in our tests. Since this is not a true infrared burner, it doesn't quite measure up to the grilling systems of the very best infrared grills; however, it outperforms the infrared burners on the lower-ranked grills, such as the Solaire Anywhere grill.

The heat on this grill is fairly uniform; it scored 90 percent in our heat consistency tests. Across the primary cooking area, our test slices of bread cooked evenly without the High+ heat setting. After you sear your meat, you might want to turn this particular heat setting off.

For our other consistency test, the Weber Genesis II LX didn't quite measure up to the other best infrared barbecue grills. With the burners on low, the grill's temperature fluctuated by more than 65 degrees Fahrenheit. A grill that stays within 25 degrees of a particular temperature on low has better results and is better for long-term roasting. This infrared gas grill took six minutes to preheat, which is slower than all but two grills in our review. For this reason, it has a lower power score.

In terms of grilling experience, the Weber Genesis II LX E-340 outperforms the other grills in our review. This infrared barbecue grill is easy to master, producing attractive sear marks on our steaks and hamburgers. It's equally capable of handling chicken and fish, which tend to be more difficult to grill. The grilling surface is 513 square inches, which can fit 24 hamburgers. This is large enough to cook for large groups. The warming rack, however, is one of the smallest in our review, coming in at 156 square inches.

The Weber Genesis II series can run on natural gas, but you have to purchase a version of the grill that is specifically designed for natural gas. You cannot convert the propane version of this grill to a natural gas grill. This is the only grill in our review that lacks a conversion option, which is inconvenient if you decide you want to use natural gas at a later time. This grill doesn't offer a self-cleaning feature, but it doesn't require one because cleaning it is easy.

The Weber Genesis II LX E-340's stainless steel cooking grates are a big part of its stellar grilling experience. These grates leave a nice sear mark and are easy to clean. The rest of the grill is made of a porcelain-enameled stainless steel, which withstands weathering better than normal stainless steel.

The grill has a storage area under the cookbox. This houses your propane tank, the drip pan and a gauge that tells you how much fuel you have left. The LX E-340 only has two swiveling wheels, which makes it less maneuverable than grills with four swiveling wheels. The grill has lights built into main burner knobs and one on the lid handle, which are helpful for nighttime grilling.

The Weber Genesis II LX E-340 has one of the best warranties among infrared grills. The burners, cooking grates, cookbox and lid are protected by a 10-year warranty, which is more than long enough to protect your investment. The cooking grate warranty in particular is better than you get with most infrared grills. The grill's two-year parts warranty is the best in our review. Weber offers a complete set of support features, such as FAQs, online manuals, and email and phone contact.

Among gas grills, the Weber Genesis II LX E-340 is hard to beat. However, compared to the very best infrared grills in our review, it lacks the technology to be at the top. To compensate, it offers a well-rounded grilling experience that meets the needs of most households.
