The best laser line levels can automatically produce level lines, project good quality beams and have versatile mount options. The Bosch GLL 1P is portable and easy to use, but it doesn’t offer the features and versatility of the top models we reviewed.

The device has two bubble levels for vertical and horizontal lines, but it is not self-leveling. In order to have accurate lines, you have to manually adjust the level. If you only need a laser level for a few quick household jobs, that is not such a problem. However, if you plan to use your level often or for large projects, continuously adjusting the level each time you move it will become a chore. There's also not an out of level indicator, so you're on your own to determine how level the line is based on how close you can get the bubble to the center.

The level does not project two lines at once, but it does have vertical and horizontal capabilities. In order to project in a different direction, you need to manually adjust the level from its base and reset the level accuracy. The beams can project as far as 16 feet, which is on the low end, and the line quality is not as strong compared to other laser levels.

As far as design, the level is small and portable, but it also requires a tripod for greater height unless you want to put a hole in the wall to mount the device. That said, your other mount options are to use contact tape, screw it into the wall or set it on a table or other steady surface. The laser attaches to the mount with strong magnets, but it's not intuitive how the laser should rest on the mount or even how to have the best functionality.

Bosch offers a series of help and support features, including a two-year limited warranty, an online manual and a Frequently Asked Questions section, as well as live chat, phone and email services. The help and support features are among the best of the products we reviewed.

Overall, for a few home projects, the Bosch GLL 1P works well enough, but without more advanced features, like a self-leveling pendulum or additional mount options, it can be frustrating to manage this device for repetitive or larger projects.
