The Craftsman 10-Inch Compact Sliding Compound Miter Saw provides precision cuts and takes up less space than a standard miter saw. The smooth sliding arm makes for cleaner cuts while still offering robust cutting power.

True to its name, this Craftsman miter saw is designed to take up as little space as possible while remaining a powerful and accurate tool. Its laser guide helps make more precise cuts. The 15-amp motor runs at 4,800 RPM, which should cut through various types of lumber. The carbide blade has a tooth count of 60. The electric motor break improves safety as well as possibly increasing accuracy.

The tall fence allows cuts in boards up to 12 1/2 inches. The miter can be adjusted from zero to 50 degrees and has a left bevel range of 0 to 47 degrees. At 45 degrees, its cut depth is 1 3/4 inches, with a cut depth of 3 1/2 inches at 90 degrees.

This saw's big differentiator is its compact design. It can sit flat against the wall, requiring less operating space than other miter saws. This could be useful if you already have a crowded tool shop. It could tuck into a corner and is relatively light, so it can be moved around. This miter saw is designed for portability. Although a battery pack is not included, it can be purchased separately. The motor may drain batteries quickly, so you may want to have several on hand for big jobs. It weighs 44 pounds, so plan accordingly if you need to move it around. The offset rail system can help with accuracy. The extension bars retract or extend, letting you work with longer cuts of wood when necessary, even if the saw is sitting flush against the wall.

It has an onboard dust collector to help with cleanup, and extension tables can be used for wider planks of wood. The included hold down clamp helps maintain control and accuracy, and the top level clamp offers control and exactness.

The 10-inch blade should suffice for most jobs, but if you know you are going to consistently need larger cutting capacity, you may want to consider a 12-inch miter saw as well. Because of its design, if you need more bevel capacity, you may need to go with a full-size dual-bevel saw.

The Craftsman 10-inch Compact Miter Saw is designed for the home tool shop where space is at a premium. However, if you need a dual-bevel saw for precise cross cuts, you may need to opt for a less portable and more costly option.
