Pros / This software allows you to create video files that are optimized for the mobile device you carry around in your pocket.
Cons / It's missing some extra functionality, such as the ability to download videos from the internet, which could have earned it a spot among our award winners.
Verdict / iFunia Video Converter is a simple-to-use application for creating video files out of other video files. Its lack of extra features keeps it from being the best, but it comes close.
iFunia Video Converter is an application that can handle almost any task you would expect from a Mac video converter. Whether you simply want to transform an AVI into an MOV or to convert your favorite movie into a format that plays nicely on your smartphone, iFunia meets your needs. It's not the best video converter for Mac on our side-by-side comparison chart, but it definitely provides enough value for the money to make it worthy of your consideration.
This application's interface is quite easy to navigate. The home screen shows you exactly what you need to do to get started. You then have two buttons that allow you to either edit the video or select the type of file you want to convert it to.
The list of file types you can convert to with this software is comprehensive. However, this application doesn't stop at providing you a list of cold file formats such as AVI, MOV and WMV. It provides a long list of devices that it can tailor your video files for. For example, if you have a movie file on your computer that you want to load onto your smartphone, all you need to do is select what type of phone you have from the list. Within minutes you'll have a file that is optimized for your device's specific settings and hardware. You can optimize a file for smartphones, gaming consoles, tablets and more. You can even export your video for use in Apple software such as iTunes, iMovie, iDVD and Final Cut Pro.
If you want to customize your video files further, iFunia's tools enable you to perform some basic edits. Of course, you can cut unwanted footage and crop the video. But you also can add watermarks and subtitles, and even convert 2D footage into 3D. These tools are useful but rudimentary by nature. If you need to perform major surgery on your video or create a complex video, you should look into purchasing a fully featured video editing application.
All of iFunia's features are worthwhile and work as advertised. However, in our review of the best Mac video converters, we looked for some additional features that iFunia lacks. For example, this application does not allow you to download videos for the internet or burn your converted videos to a DVD.
At the end of the day, this is a fine piece of Mac converter software. It's easy to use and can handle any video file conversion you want to perform. It has an excellent list of compatible devices and allows you to make some basic edits to your videos. However, it's missing some features, which kept it out of the top tier of our review.
