ION Solar is the result of Vision Solar and Zing Solar's merger in early 2017. It is a growing solar company that offers strong warranties and financing options at relatively affordable prices. You will be able to get quick and informed answers to questions when you contact a customer representative.
Since the merger, ION Solar now has locations in California, Colorado, Connecticut, Nevada, New Jersey, New Mexico, South Carolina, Texas and Utah. You will need to contact the company to see if it offers services in your area.
This company does not currently offer backup battery storage installation. When we asked about this we were told this service isn't offered because it is currently too costly for the average homeowner. Most of the company's systems are grid tied. If you wish to go off the grid with ION Solar, you will need to check with your energy provider to see if this is an option in your area.
The firm offers four different agreement options: 12-year and 20-year loans, a 25-year PPA and outright purchase. Each of these plans includes 25-year inverter and solar panel warranties. The 10-year labor warranty ensures that if something breaks or needs to be replaced ION Solar will fix it at no cost to you. If anything breaks after those 10 years, the labor cost to fix it will be a $100 or less. If you are concerned about the affect the heavy solar panels will have on your roof, know that ION Solar's services cover a 10-year roof warranty. If you decide to move, you can transfer the agreement to the new homeowner. As an additional incentive, if you refer a friend to the company, you can earn $200 when that friend makes the switch to solar.
Making the switch to ION Solar starts when you contact the company through telephone. A representative will get some information from you regarding your home's energy usage and the rate of your utilities to see if solar energy will help you. The rep will then use a computer program to evaluate your roof to see if it is suitable for solar panels. In this same initial call, a plan will be drawn up explaining the projected savings of your home's custom system. Technicians will come to your house to take measurements for the engineering plans, which will be sent to your municipality for approval. Additional paperwork will have to be approved by your utility. Once all the paperwork has been approved, installation will be scheduled. Power will turn on soon after installation.
Whether or not you will be able to monitor your home's energy production depends on the agreement plan you choose. If you decide on the PPA the company will monitor the system, but if you choose the purchase or loan options you will be able to view energy production via an app or the company's website.
The FAQs page only has six answers on it, which is lacking compared to some other solar panel installers' websites. We contacted customer service many times and received answers quickly and politely each time, often in the same day. If nothing else, this shows that you will be able to get ahold of the company in an emergency. You can contact ION Solar through phone, email or Facebook.
ION Solar offers strong customer support features with knowledgeable and friendly staff. We were also impressed with the powerful warranties and flexible choices of the financial agreements this company offers. All in all, this solar panel installer is a great choice for anyone wanting to make the switch to clean energy.
