Goodman gas furnaces are some of the best value options on the market and a great choice for those looking to heat their home on a budget. As a brand, Goodman hasn’t been around for nearly as long as other market leaders, but it has quickly earned a reputation as one of the top low-cost options.

To read about the other brands we’ve reviewed, head to our guide on the best gas furnaces.

Goodman gas furnaces: Pricing and value

Goodman’s gas furnaces start from as low as $2,000 including installation and go up to about $3,300 for its best models with installation. The models on their own start at $1,100 and go up to $2,300.

Comparable gas furnaces like the ones in our Bryant gas furnaces review and Rheem gas furnaces review tend to retail for a few hundred dollars more so you can really get good value for money with a Goodman furnace, even if it may be lacking a few features.

Goodman gas furnaces have good AFUE ratings of between 80% and 98%, so they’re energy-efficient, although models with ratings between 80% and 90% would be more suited to warmer climates.

Goodman is known for having some of the best warranties on the market. As long as you register within 60 days, Goodman gas furnaces have 10-year parts warranties, 10-year unit replacement warranties on some models, and lifetime heat exchanger warranties (while you own your home).

Goodman gas furnaces: Models and choice

Goodman doesn’t categorize its gas furnaces by series, instead, they’re sectioned by AFUE rating. The best models have ratings of 90% and above, while the rest of their furnaces are placed in an 80% and above section. The 90%+ range contains fifteen models, while there are a further thirteen with the lower rating category.

One of Goodman’s best gas furnace models is the GMVM97, with a 98% AFUE rating. As you would probably expect, it does sit towards the top of their price range, but it does come with a range of features that justifies the price, including a self-calibrating modulating gas valve, ComfortBridge technology, and a variable-speed blower, all providing this gas furnace with precision heating options. It’s available in 5 to 10-ton models and is also Energy Star certified.

At a lower price point, but still popular is the GMVC80 gas furnace. Thanks to a high-efficiency variable speed motor, this model is super quiet. It has an AFUE rating of 80%, so it might not be the best option in cooler areas, but it’s still considered a good rating.

Goodman gas furnaces: Features

Goodman gas furnaces come with a wide range of features, with the models in the 90%+ AFUE rating section having more high-end features than the others.

Across the range, you’ll find models featuring single-stage or two-stage gas valves, while a couple of the higher-end models have modulating gas valves. These different gas valves affect the way the gas furnace reaches your target thermostat temperature. Single-stage valves have one flame level and switch themselves off and on to reach the target level. They tend to be less energy efficient and produce more of a temperature fluctuation. Two-stage gas valves are similar, but they have two different flame levels to use to reach the right temperature. Modulating gas valves have much more variation in flame levels and can adjust to keep your home within a degree or two of your target temperature while saving energy.

Many models, including those in the GMV range, come with an auto-comfort mode, which allows the gas furnace to quickly and effectively dehumidify your home. Others, such as those in the GME range, come fitted with a multi-speed ECM blower motor, allowing the fan motor the ability to ramp up and down, drastically improving the air conditioning efficiency.

Should you buy a Goodman gas furnace?

Goodman gas furnaces are a solid option for anyone looking for a furnace that won’t put a big dent in their pocket while heating their home for many years to come. With some of the best warranties on the market, a well-installed Goodman gas furnace is a reliable option.
