The KitchenAid KRSF505ESS is a stainless steel side-by-side refrigerator that also comes in black and white to make it easier to match to your other kitchen appliances. This is the best side-by-side refrigerator and our Top Ten Reviews Gold Award winner for its immense storage capacity and for being the most energy-efficient of all the models we reviewed. It also includes some impressive features not typically found in side-by-side fridges.

Capacity

With nearly 25 cubic feet of total storage space, the KitchenAid KRSF505ESS has one of the largest capacities of side-by-side refrigerators we reviewed. It stands 69 inches high and nearly 36 inches wide, which are smaller dimensions than those of other refrigerator models, but the KitchenAid makes great use of the interior to give you as much storage space as possible.

Energy Use & Efficiency

The KitchenAid KRSF505ESS is the most energy-efficient side-by-side refrigerator in our review. It uses $73 worth of energy per year, which is the estimated average of a few other fridges. However, because of the amount of storage space, this equates to only $2.93 per cubic foot. This is, at minimum, 50 cents less than most side-by-side refrigerators cost to run and $1 less than several others. Additionally, the KitchenAid is one of only four fridges in our review that is Energy Star compliant. All of these points earned the KitchenAid a perfect score for efficiency.

Shelving & Storage

In the refrigerator section of this fridge are four shelves with a spill-proof design to keep messes from spreading to other parts of the fridge. However, these shelves are not adjustable, so you can’t create additional space for taller items. Of the five door bins, however, two are large enough to hold gallon-sized containers or 2-liter bottles. There is also a wire bottle rack connected to the underside of one of the shelves that is designed to hold up to four bottles so they don’t take up space in other areas.

Two of the three drawers are humidity- and temperature-controlled crispers, which are great for storing fruit and vegetables. The third is a large deli drawer.

The freezer has four shelves, two drawers and three door bins. These are all made of a sturdy, clear plastic so you can see what is stored in them. The icemaker and ice bin are housed in the freezer door.

Conveniences

The KitchenAid KRSF505ESS doesn’t have as many extra convenience features as some refrigerators in our review, but it has all the necessities. It includes a freezer-side water and ice dispenser with a lockout feature, so you can control when it can dispense water and ice. Another dispenser control is a metered fill that only dispenses a set amount of water so you don’t have to worry about any spillover.

The refrigerator controls are located along with the water dispenser in the freezer door. In addition to setting the temperature of each section of the refrigerator, you can set a door alarm. This alarm sounds after a door is left open for a set amount of time, usually a minute. This is a great energy-saving feature.

This refrigerator has three color options for the finish: stainless steel, black and white. This is more than most side-by-side refrigerators, which typically only have a stainless steel finish. This selection makes it easier to match your side-by-side refrigerator to your kitchen decor or other appliances you already have.

Warranty & Support

KitchenAid includes a one-year warranty on all parts and labor for your KRSF505ESS. This is standard for side-by-side refrigerators. After this initial year of coverage, KitchenAid extends its warranty to cover the sealed system for an additional five years. This system is the parts that keep your refrigerator cold, and the long warranty to cover this means you won’t have to pay too much out of pocket to fix it if it breaks. Warranty information is in the user guide. If you misplace your physical copy, you can access a digital copy from the KitchenAid website.

It is also the most energy-efficient, using only $2.93 per cubic foot each year, and is Energy Star qualified. While the spill-proof shelves in the refrigerator are not adjustable, the KitchenAid KRSF505ESS includes five door bins and a unique bottle rack to hold bulky items.
