VERDICT / Keeper Backup Unlimited is unusual because it supports Blackberry and Windows Phone in addition to iOS and Android devices. It also provides better support than what is usual for the industry.
Editor's note: A newer version of this product is available. The manufacturer lists the new version as offering the following features: access from your Apple Watch; shared folders; and logout timer control. We will evaluate, rank and review the new version of this product when we next update the Online Password Manager reviews.
Keeper Backup Unlimited captures and saves passwords so that you can log in securely. It supports almost every feature associated with the best password managers. It beats most competitors at customer service and support for mobile devices.
Other than the ability to import passwords from competing products, Keeper Backup Unlimited supports all of the important features associated with the best password managers. For example, it captures passwords on the fly and it can create new passwords. You can synchronize your passwords across platforms and access them from anywhere. If you lose your master password, nobody but you ever knew what it was, so it’s secure.
In addition to managing passwords, Keeper stores the personal data necessary to automatically complete online forms. Furthermore, it organizes and stores files and photos in a secure vault. Just as it cannot provide you with your master password, the publisher of Keeper cannot access your devices, nor can it decrypt the files that you back up to its servers.
Keeper supports multifactor authentication. Half of the online password managers in our review do not support multifactor authentication methods, which forces an additional step to the typical username and password login. For example, it might require you to enter a one-time code that you receive by text or email.
Keeper supports more operating systems than usual in the password management market. It runs on Windows and Mac OS, as you would expect. But it also works with Linux and Windows RT. Regarding browsers, Keeper supports Internet Explorer, Firefox, Chrome, Opera and Safari. Most of Keeper’s competition supports just iOS (iPad and iPhone) and Android devices. Keeper extends support to Blackberry and Windows Phone.
The norm for password manager publishers is to restrict support to email. Keeper goes way beyond the basic offering to provide 24/7 live chat access to customer service in case you have a question. Enterprise and group customers also have telephone access.
Keeper Backup Unlimited is perfectly poised to replace manual password management methods with ones that automate the process and encourage stronger passwords. Keeper enables an encrypted depository for all digital files, not just passwords. This password manager software is a strong contender and its customer service is second to none.
