PROS / SplashID Safe includes identity-theft protection.
CONS / It does not capture logins automatically.
VERDICT / SplashID Safe works with more than the average number of mobile devices. However, it does not provide the convenience of automatically saving passwords.
SplashID Safe Personal Edition is an online password manager for iPhones, iPads, Android devices, Blackberrys and Windows Phone smartphones. There are desktop versions for Macs (Mac OS X 10.7 and later) and PCs. All SplashID versions support synchronization of data. You can sync via the cloud, or if you don’t trust the cloud, then you can synchronize locally using Wi-Fi, which is not a choice that many SplashID competitors provide. SplashID doesn’t capture passwords on the fly, even though all of the other products in our review support such a feature. SplashID is the only password organizer in our review that includes an identity protection service. If you lose a wallet, smartphone or computer, you have 24/7 access to agents and investigators who will attempt to minimize your risk.
SplashID stores a variety of information such as bank accounts, birthdays, clothing sizes, credit cards, safe combinations, travel card information, serial numbers and web logins. You can save an unlimited number of record types and categories. This password keeper cannot auto-save new forms as you fill them in. Therefore, if you want to fill out a new form to join a forum or create a new online shopping account, you have to enter your information manually. And then you must create a template for that membership separately. Other products in the secure password manager product category auto-save new forms automatically.
SplashID Safe encrypts your personal information and passwords, just as all of its competitors do. It also includes the ability to mask fields so that onlookers cannot see your passwords and usernames. Just like all of the products in our review, SplashID includes a password generator that creates strong passwords using letters, numbers and characters. You can store a master password hint. As with most competitors, SplashID can organize logins by category, store secure notes and allow shared access to secure sites.
If you want to control all data at the local level rather than through the SplashID Cloud, the Wi-Fi sync option is attractive. SplashID Safe contains most of the features of its competitors; however, it cannot automatically save passwords. Unfortunately, one of the aspects to SplashID that is similar to most online password manager competitors is that customer support is via email.
