PROS / It can track incoming and outgoing phone calls.
CONS / The software doesn’t have powerful restriction and alert settings.
VERDICT / MaxxSpy tracks a wide variety of data and updates reports quickly, but its missing some useful functionality, and monitoring changes can only be made directly on the device.
MaxxSpy cell phone monitoring software quickly reports on your child's smartphone activity. The program can track communications, the phone’s location and installed apps. However, its lack of restriction and alert capabilities limits the control you have over your child's phone use.
The software is easy enough to download, as you simply type in a direct download link; however, configuration is a pain compared to the other mobile phone monitoring products we tested. You can only select what you want to monitor or adjust other settings directly on the cell phone. Other products we tested let you toggle surveillance activity options from the monitoring website, which allows you to be discreet. Additionally, to access the administrative interface on the target device, you have to dial a phone number, which is time consuming and annoying to have to remember.
MaxxSpy mobile phone spyware runs invisibly on the target device, and it backs up monitoring data. The company does not offer plans for more than one device, so you have to buy multiple individual licenses if you want to use MaxxSpy to monitor more than one cell phone. The software works on Android and iOS smartphones but not BlackBerry devices.
The software shows not just the URLs of visited websites, but also those of individual YouTube videos the user viewed. You have access to outgoing and incoming texts, as well as media files. It can also track the device's location history, contacts and installed apps. To monitor chat apps and Gmail messages, the target device needs to be rooted.
If you just want to monitor your child’s cell phone, MaxxSpy is a great option because that's about all it can do. It falls short in its capacity to let you set usage restrictions and create any kind of alert. While most of the other products we feature let you limit phone use time, block apps or websites, or create keyword use alerts, all this phone monitoring software lets you do is delete a contact.
You can contact the company via email or social media, should you need to speak with a representative directly. However, it doesn't have live chat or phone customer support options. You can find a variety of informational resources on the company's website, though.
Although MaxxSpy is lacking in some areas, it is a decent option for basic monitoring on one device. It doesn't have the extensive alert and restriction settings found on the best cell phone monitoring software, but it has an intuitive, clear-cut website interface and quickly collects data from the target device.
