Bored of your smartphone or compact camera? Want to step up to something a little more powerful? If you’re a first-time DSLR user, you’ll find the Canon EOS Rebel SL2, also known as the Canon EOS 200D outside the US, to be one of the best DSLRs for you. Read on to find out more and grab the best deal right now.

The Canon EOS Rebel SL2 is one of the finest DSLR cameras right now for those just cutting their photographic teeth. It combines everything the first-time user needs with tried-and-tested technologies that we’ve seen in more advanced Canon cameras, and manages to deliver it all for a tidy price.

The EOS Rebel SL2 is based around a great 24.2MP APS-C sensor, and this captures both stills and Full HD videos. It also works with Canon’s excellent Dual Pixel CMOS AF system, which allows you to focus just as swiftly when using live view or when shooting videos as with a mirrorless camera.

Great compatibility with Canon lenses

Not every image needs to be taken with the camera held up the to eye, and the flip-out LCD screen makes awkward compositions a thing of the past. Just pull it out and twist it to where you need it to be, even all the way around to face the front for a quick selfie. With the further benefit of touch functionality, you needn’t fiddle around with focusing points either – just press the screen where you want the camera to focus and it happens immediately.

The camera works with an exhaustive array of Canon EF and EF-S lenses, but if you just want to get going, the default kit includes an 18-55mm lens, which is perfect. Just make sure this lens has Image Stabilizer, or ‘I.S.' written on it; some cheaper kit options include a lens that doesn’t have this, which can make it harder to capture sharp images in tricky conditions.
