Mint Mobile might not be a household name when it comes to cell carriers, but that might be about to change with its new 3 month unlimited plan, which launched today for just $30 per month. And when we say unlimited, we mean unlimited domestic calls, texts and data, along with unlimited calls to Mexico and Canada so you can keep in touch with your friends and family across the border. And what’s more, Mint Mobile’s network uses both 5G and 4G LTE, prioritizing whichever has the best signal in your area. We think it's such a good deal, we've ranked Mint among our best cell phone providers. So what’s the catch?
Well there’s no hidden landmines for you to step on here, but there are a few conditions that come with this cell phone plan. Data usage is unlimited, but speeds are tethered after 35GB of usage per month (which is an awful lot). You also have to bring your own phone along to take advantage of this deal, though you can grab a plan that includes one of the best smartphones today, if desired.
It’s also worth noting that this is only a three month long plan, so it’s not going to be a long term deal, but it’s ideal if you need something short term to tide you over (perhaps until the new iPhone 12 launches). The price will jump to $40 if you decide to renew the plan. Should you decide that you absolutely love Mint Mobile’s service after your three months is up though, you can sign up to its 12 month unlimited cell plan which is currently offered at the same rate of $30 per month. Either way, this is a very competitive price.
Mint Mobile was created in 2016 as an alternative to the big wireless providers, which it proudly calls “dumb” on its website (despite using one of their networks). It’s an online only cell phone provider that offers short to medium term contracts with no hidden fees, no contracts and a seven day money back guarantee if you’re not happy with the service. There is also a ZIP code checker on its website that lets you check the network’s coverage in your area. Mint Mobile uses T-Mobile’s network, which is excellent news as we rated T-Mobile the best network provider for 5G.
Oh, and Mint Mobile is part owned by Hollywood star Ryan Reynolds, which is weird, but a huge plus in our book because that man is a national treasure… well he’s Canadian, but he’s still a national treasure.
