Our Verdict

The EGO Power+ 21-inch LM2100 is a superb mower with lots of power, a long battery life, adjustable settings and a quiet running. The long warranty is a big appeal here as is the unique LED headlight system and the ability to fold this away for compact storage.

  • Fast charging battery
  • Quiet operation
  • Powerful motor
  • Five year warranty

  • Expensive battery to replace

As a company, EGO has been around making cordless battery electric mowers since 1993 and has become very good at it in that time. Now the EGO Power+ 21-inch LM2102 model offers an affordable way to get all the power of a big mower but without the noise, smell and hassle of using gas.

This mower will let you tear around your yard without the weight of a gas motor or the annoying electric cord. The result should be a very quick mow that also saves you on cost since you're not paying for gas to run it.

The key here is that you get all the same torque power of a gas mower, only with battery power. That means you don't need to make a sacrifice. This particular model isn't self-propelled but this is a variant that does offer that option if you want to spend a bit more.

Battery life is long enough to cover a good quarter acre of mowing in about 45-minutes meaning you won't even need to stop to charge up. You also have mulching, bagging and side discharge options. But that's just the start, there's lots more on offer here.

So is this the best electric lawn mower for you? Read on to find out all you need to know.

EGO Power+ 21-inch LM2102 review: Design and build

  • 74lb with one 7.5Ah battery
  • 56 volt system
  • 21-inch cut area

The EGO Power+ 21-inch LM2102 is a solid IPX4 construction meaning you get proper waterproofing so this beast will live quite happily out in your garage. You also get LED headlights built in so you can mow anytime you feel the need without worry about lack of visibility.

The mower runs off a 56V lithium-ion battery which is part of the EGO Power+ ARC Lithium series. That means it's interchangeable with other EGO devices like blowers and trimmers, for example. So you may only need to buy one battery if you're investing in lot of these. Or, you may have a spare for continued use even when this runs down.

Despite having a decent 21-inch cut area, the whole mower folds down for compact storage. You also get a 2-bushel grass collection bag which is easy access for emptying and reattaching. The handlebar has three position levels so you can find the most comfy for you, making it ideal even for continued use.

All that is covered by an impressive five year parts warranty and a three year battery warranty.

EGO Power+ 21-inch LM2102 review: Features

  • Fast charging
  • 3-in-1 function for waste
  • Torque

The EGO Power+ 21-inch LM2102 has a stand-out feature and that's the fact that it offers more torque than some gas mowers, despite running on battery. And that battery is another feature worth mentioning as it can be charged to full in under an hour. Then you should get up to an hour's worth of runtime - that's better than the likes of the Ryobi 40V 21-inch Brushless Smart Trek but not as good as the Greenworks 21-inch 60V MO60L410.

For grass, you've got three options of using the bagging system, mulching or using the side discharge. Either way you can use the three different handle positions to find comfort and vary the mower cutting height between one and a half inches and four inches high.

You get a push button start for super simple running and the LED headlights help you see no matter what time of day you're out working on the lawn. Since this runs really quietly, thanks to that battery, you should be good to mow after dark without bothering the neighbors.

EGO Power+ 21-inch LM2102 review: Performance

  • Lots of power
  • Light enough to move easily
  • Decent notifications

The EGO Power+ 21-inch LM2102 offers lots of power through that electric motor. The result is that you can use this for pretty much any lawn job you want to tackle with it aimed at up to a half acre. In reality, of course, you might not cover that much space if the job is the first cut of the season when grass is long and tough. This is because it will chew through the battery faster.

Realistically, with the larger 7.5Ah battery, you're looking at about 45 minutes for an average difficulty lawn cut. You might get more out of it but, if it's wet, that might be tougher and you'll get a little less. Either way you've got light notifications so you can see how much power you have left so it's not really an issue. Having a second battery is the ideal situation so then you don't have to wait for a charge. Even at an hour to full again it's still a hassle if you get stuck.

The 21-inch blade is plenty wide and does make cutting fast work. This model needs you to push but there is a self-propelled variant that you might want to consider if you have a lots of uphill parts to your yard. But once again you'll have to keep in mind that'll eat a bit more battery.

Emptying the bag, folding the mower and moving it about are all very easy, making this a great model for anyone to use.

With quiet running, up to 30 percent less than gas, makes this great for late night cuts or for anyone that just hates that loud noise.

Should I buy the EGO Power+ 21-inch LM2102?

If you want to get rid of gas or cables then a battery mower is ideal. This model offers you the same power or more but with quieter running and lower costs. The fast charging is a great feature as is the LED headlighting. If you've already got EGO Power+ battery devices, this is a great addition and will save you on buying a new battery.

If you want a battery mower with self-propulsion, you can still get this model with that extra added on.
