The GE FUF14DLRWW Frost-Free freezer beautifully blends simplicity with substance, offering a good range of features contained within an aesthetically pleasing design.

One of the best freezers on the market, this model from GE is built to withstand temperatures ranging from zero degrees Fahrenheit up to 110 degrees, so you can rest assured your frozen food will always stay at the temperature you’ve set the freezer to.

With 14.1 cubic feet of storage, this model offers plenty of space for families, and being an upright freezer, you don’t have to rummage around as you would in a chest freezer to be able to find the items you’re looking for. Everything’s right there on hand when you open the door, meaning you can locate your favorite foods quickly and easily.

Alternatively, if you don't want a dedicated freezer model, consider a combo with one of the best French door refrigerators or the best side-by-side refrigerators.

GE FUF14DLRWW freezer: Design and build

While it may not have the huge capacity of the GE FUF21SMRWW Frost-Free freezer, the 14.1 cubic feet of storage space is likely to be more than enough to suit the needs of most families. It may be designed to live in your garage, but at just over five feet in height and with a width of 2.3 feet, it will comfortably sit in a large kitchen.

If you plan on popping this freezer in your garage and you live in a climate that’s prone to cold winters or hot summers, you’ll be pleased to know that GE has tested this freezer to ensure it can withstand temperatures as low as zero degrees Fahrenheit or as high as 110 degrees.

When you look inside the GE FUF14DLRWW Frost-Free freezer, you’ll find four shelves and two clear slide-out freezer bins, as well as four shelves in the door for additional storage. The freezer has adjustable legs, but it doesn’t have wheels like the Gladiator 17.8 Upright Rolling Garage freezer, so you’ll need a dolly or similar product designed for moving appliances if you’re wanting to shift it around. The legs can be unscrewed to make this easier.

Installation is nice and easy with the freezer just needing to be plugged in, and the legs can be adjusted to ensure the freezer is firmly positioned on the floor with the bottom raised just enough so that the door closes easily. As with most models, allow a three-inch clearance on the top, back, and sides to allow for proper air circulation.

GE FUF14DLRWW freezer: Features

The GE FUF14DLRWW comes with a lock and key to protect your valuable food items, and the frost-free design prevents build-up and lets you say goodbye once and for all to the days of having to manually empty your freezer to defrost it.

We particularly like the range of temperature features this freezer comes with. There’s an audible temperature alarm, which alerts you if the internal temperature starts to get too high, and the exterior electronic temperature control means you can easily adjust the temperature without opening the door and letting cold air out. The turbo freeze function is a nice touch too and means that once you’ve closed the door after getting food out, a boost of cold air will be released to restore the temperature.

Like the best side-by-side refrigerators, this freezer comes with bright LED lighting that spotlights food inside the freezer so you can quickly and easily locate what you’re looking for. What else is great about this model is that it is frost-free, which means that you won’t have to waste time defrosting the GE FUF14DLRWW manually.

The GE FUF14DLRWW does only come in white, however, so if that doesn’t fit in with your interiors, this could be a major drawback.

GE FUF14DLRWW freezer: Performance and warranty

If energy-efficiency is high on your list of wants in a freezer, then you’ll love that the GE FUF14DLRWW is ENERGY STAR qualified. While it doesn’t perform quite as well as the GE FCM16DLWW, it still meets the guidelines for energy-efficiency, with estimated yearly electricity use coming in at around 397 kWh and running costs averaging $48.

You’ll get a one-year warranty with this freezer, which is standard for GE, and that covers you for any defects or failures that occur during that initial 12-month period.

Because it has lots of new features, the GE FUF14DLRWW has a more powerful and higher speed compressor than older models, making it slightly louder on the noise front. However, if you plan on putting this freezer in your kitchen, don’t worry, you’re unlikely to find it any louder than your standard refrigerator.

GE FUF14DLRWW freezer: User reviews

With lots of great user reviews, the GE FUF14DLRWW gets an impressive average rating of 4.8 out of five stars across more than 2,000 reviews at Home Depot. You’ll find similar rating scores at Lowe’s and on the GE website itself. So, what are all those reviewers raving about?

The amount of storage space and ease of access is high on the list with one reviewer stating: “I love my upright deep freezer! It’s perfect for our garage and has TONS of space! I also love the clear shelves, drawers, and ample storage in the doors.” Another writes “I was debating about this freezer and the chest freezer. So glad I spent the extra money to purchase this upright garage-ready frost-free freezer. I am able to find things quickly without having to remove items to find what I am looking for.”

Less than glowing reviews are few and far between, but those that dislike this freezer point to the firm suction on the door being hard to open, so the GE FUF14DLRWW may not be a suitable choice for those with dexterity issues.

Should you buy the GE FUF14DLRWW freezer?

While it isn’t the biggest upright freezer on the market, the GE FUF14DLRWW has ample storage space and an accessible layout that makes locating your favorite foods easy. The frost-free design means you don’t have to manually empty it and defrost it, and we love the various temperature features that are designed to ensure your food always stays at the ideal temperature.

Overall, this freezer has everything most families need, and its medium-sized design and pleasing aesthetic mean it will be equally at home in a garage or large kitchen.
