Why you can trust Top Ten Reviews Our expert reviewers spend hours testing and comparing products and services so you can choose the best for you. Find out more about how we test.

Design It Yourself allows you to either design the best gift basket for you from scratch – giving you the chance to personalize the basket – or select from hundreds of premade baskets. Our taste testers rated the food highly and if you really want to put together your own custom basket, this is the best company. You can add tea, a puzzle, balloons, stuffed animals and many other add-ons.

This company has phone and email support but no FAQs section on its website. Support doesn’t matter as much if your basket is delivered on time and in good condition, but when you have a problem it helps to easily be able to get help with general issues.

Design It Yourself review: Gift basket

  • Great-tasting desserts
  • Limited dietary options

Because we wanted the baskets in our taste test to be as similar as possible, we chose a premade basket for our testing. Our panel of 20 taste testers felt that the desserts in this basket were some of the best of all the baskets they tested. The white chocolate amaretto cookies were particularly popular. One thing that our testers thought was lacking was a cheese or cheese-like spread.

The basket we ordered arrived in good condition without any rips, tears or crushed edges or corners. The basket was packaged in bubble wrap which helped to ensure a pristine delivery. The included gift card was the nicest included gift card out of all of the companies we reviewed and it came on thick cardstock and was simple and elegant. Other companies simply printed out small flyers or included the card as part of the shipping label.

This company has over 475 premade baskets to choose from and you can order kosher baskets by searching in the website’s search bar. That means you can probably find a basket that fits your recipient if you search hard enough. Unfortunately, it doesn’t offer vegan basket options.

Design It Yourself review: Customer support

  • Limited ordering options
  • Overnight shipping available

One downside to this company is that you can only pay for your basket online by using a credit card. If you want to pay with PayPal or an eCheck, you have to call and speak with a representative or use a site like GiftTree or FTD. You also have to call and place your order over the phone if you want to ship your basket internationally or to APO/FPO addresses.

This company does offer to have your basket shipped overnight and it also has express shipping.

This company has phone, email and chat support but no FAQs section on its website. Support doesn’t matter as much if your basket is delivered on time and in good condition, but when you have a problem it helps to easily be able to get help with general issues.

Should you try a Design It Yourself gift basket?

Though Design It Yourself rules the personalized gift basket space, it is the food quality that makes it rank lower than both Harry & David and 1-800-Baskets. If you really want to put together a basket by yourself for a loved one or friend, this is a good choice. However, better-tasting food items and more gourmet treats would make this an even better option.
