GE is a recognized and trusted name in electronics and appliances, and its Profile series of side-by-side refrigerators lives up to the name. The models come in a variety of capacities, sizes and color options, so there is sure to be one that fits nicely into your kitchen. All models come with a water and ice dispenser, adjustable shelves and door bins. The PSE29KSESS model is a large-capacity side-by-side, is Energy Star compliant and has a long list of impressive features.
GE Profile side-by-side refrigerators come in a variety of capacities, ranging from 23 cubic feet to 29.5 cubic feet of interior space. The smaller models are counter depth, providing 14.75 feet of space within the refrigerator and 8.59 cubic feet in the freezer, which is average for counter-depth models. The large side-by-side refrigerator and freezers, including the PSE29KSESS, have 29.5 cubic feet, providing 17.97 cubic feet of refrigerated space and 11.12 cubic feet of freezer space.
You can adjust the storage capabilities within the 17.97 cubic feet of refrigerator space. All of the four shelves are spillproof to prevent any drips or leaks from messing up the interior. Three of the shelves are adjustable, and two are slide-out shelves, making it easier to reach items in the back of the fridge. The two crisper drawers are humidity controlled to keep your fruits and veggies fresh, and the snack drawer keeps small and loose food items organized. The clear door bins fit gallon-size containers, so they're perfect spots for milk and juice. Three of the four bins are adjustable to accommodate tall containers, and the dairy container is perfect for butter or eggs.
The refrigerators have four electronic sensors that detect the temperature and automatically adjust it when needed. There is also a quick-cool feature, which quickly restores cool air after a temperature increase, such as after you load groceries or put away warm leftovers. It runs for eight hours, or you can turn it off manually. If you accidentally leave the door open, an alarm sounds after three minutes.
The well-organized freezer makes the most of its spacious interior despite the icemaker being mounted above the shelving rather than saving space in the door. There are two wire shelves, three storage baskets and three freezer bins, two of which are adjustable. The icemaker holds up to 10 pounds of ice and has an easy-access door, and the water dispenser uses GE's filtration system for six months of freshly filtered water.
While not all GE Profile models are Energy Star compliant, they are all fairly energy efficient. One model with 29.5 cubic feet of interior space that is not Energy Star compliant still only uses 645 kWh of energy a year, with an estimated operating cost of $70. The Energy Star-compliant PSE29KSESS only uses 616 kWh of energy annually, with an estimated operating cost of $65.
More on Refrigerators
GE offers a decent warranty on its side-by-side refrigerators. Parts and labor are covered for one year, which is the industry minimum, but the compressor and sealed system are covered for a full five years, a warranty that not all manufacturers offer.
