The GE GSS23GSKSS is one of the more affordable models we looked at, and it is packed with many useful features, making it a great value. Some of the features include adjustable and spillproof shelves, humidity-controlled drawers, and both a dairy compartment and a deli/snack drawer.

In addition to three drawers and four shelves, the GE has four door bins in the refrigerator section. The freezer has three shelves and a bin for large items at the bottom. It also has three door bins. This GE model is the smallest refrigerator we looked at, with only 23.2 cubic feet of interior space. If you need something roomier, check out the Samsung RS27T5200SR.

Given the overall capacity, the refrigerator compartment has some impressive space at 16.2 cubic feet. This is better than average when compared with the other refrigerators we looked at. With the adjustable door bin and shelf space, the refrigerator is very customizable. The slide-out shelves make it very easy to access food anywhere in the fridge. The humidity-controlled drawers are big and perfect for keeping veggies and fruits fresh and on hand.

The freezer, while functional, has the single smallest capacity of any model we evaluated. If a lot of freezer space is important to you, this side-by-side refrigerator is not the best choice. The freezer space is also oddly laid out. It is narrow, as you would expect. The top shelf’s space is quite small, but the two lower shelves are comparatively spacious. However, the bin below the shelves has an over-abundance of space. The overall freezer space should be divided more evenly.

With that said, the combined bin and shelf space in this freezer holds much more food, and in a much more organized way, than the little box over a traditional fridge. But if you want a side-by-side with a lot of freezer space, the LG LSX26336S is a good option.

While this model is not Energy Star certified, it is energy efficient. Only two refrigerators in our lineup have lower estimated annual energy usage. It costs an estimated $81 a year to run. The touch controls are located along with the water dispenser on the freezer-side door. In addition to adjusting the temperature, you can lock the dispenser and set an alarm to let you know when the door has been left open for a certain amount of time.

GE includes both a one-year warranty and a five-year extended warranty on the sealed system for this model. Detailed information about the warranty is in the user guides, which are available on the GE website. For any additional questions or assistance with this refrigerator, you can speak with a support representative via online chat, telephone and email.

While the GE GSS23GSKSS has a little less space than most side-by-side refrigerators we compared, the refrigerator area is well laid out and spacious, and it has a lot of useful features for storing all kinds of foods. It also has adjustable shelves, slide-out shelves and large humidity-controlled drawers for fruits and vegetables. The freezer space, however, is comparatively cramped. Still, there is much more freezer space than you’d have in a little box on a traditional refrigerator, but if an abundance of freezer space is important to you, this is not the best choice.
