PROS / Not only does the Zik produce the best Bluetooth sound quality on our lineup, it is also noise cancelling.
CONS / These cans run on the heavy side, at 12.41 ounces.
VERDICT / The Parrot Zik has the best sound quality and the largest feature set of all the Bluetooth headphones we reviewed.
The Parrot Zik is a large exception to the rule that Bluetooth headphones suffer from lower sound quality. When listening to the Zik, you'd never know it wasn't wired. Combined with features such as a touch-sensitive remote and a jawbone sensor, it's a class above other headphones. This set isn't just for music either; it functions better than many Bluetooth headsets for phone conversations as well. For its strong feature set, the Parrot Zik headphones win the Top Ten Reviews Gold Award.
The Parrot Zik does double duty: It excels at both being the top Bluetooth headphones and outshining the competition as some of the best noise-cancelling ones. The specifications support the superior sound quality of the Zik as it has a wide frequency range of 10Hz to 20kHz, a high sensitivity of 110 decibels, a large 40 mm driver and more.
The best part of the Zik is the excellent sound quality that produces clear, balanced sound throughout a wide range of musical genres. When listening to audiobooks or talking on the phone, the noise-cancelling technology blends well with natural, detailed sound.
Available in four colors, (yellow gold, black gold, rose gold, and classic black and silver) the Parrot Zik is the most well-designed set in our Bluetooth headphone comparison. The Zik has an eye-catching over-ear design with sculpted metal and luxuriously padded ear cups. These headphones are a more comfortable alternative to many of the headphones we tried on, though they are also heavier than most at 12.4 ounces. The headphones fold flat so you can easily rest them around your neck or store them away. The ear cups rotate in a way that allows them to sit at any angle, giving you an even more secure fit.
One of the best features about these headphones is how easy it is to use the controls. The headset uses touch to skip tracks, play music, call or answer the phone and control the volume. You use swiping gestures on the right ear cup, so it just takes a while to get used to the controls. It's easy to forget that the ear cup is touch sensitive though, and you may accidentally skip a song when you try to adjust the fit.
Also, the battery is easy to charge and lasts between 6 and 24 hours, depending on your use. This is about average for the best Bluetooth headphones, although a few competitors can outlast the Zik. Keep in mind though that other longer-lasting competitors don’t have the high number of features that the Zik has.
Another useful feature is the jawbone sensor. This sensor recognizes when you are using the headphones as a headset and directs the external microphone to focus on your voice. The headphones have four separate microphones, more than any headphones on our lineup. These mics combine to filter out background noise while you are talking. Also, a built-in sensor detects when you remove your headphones and automatically pauses your music for you, an unusual bonus with the Zik.
The Parrot Zik is one of the most highly connectable Bluetooth headphones. If you want to connect via Bluetooth, it's easy to sync with your NFC-compatible phone, tablet or music device. The Zik also has a 33-foot wireless range so you can set your phone in the living room and wear the headphones to the kitchen without interrupting your audio signal. If you want to connect via a hard wire, the Zik also comes with a detachable cable for passive listening and increased sound quality.
The Zik has an app you can download for your Apple or Android devices. This app lets you activate noise cancellation and a concert-hall effect, check the battery level and access the equalizer. It's a seven-band equalizer, and you can choose from various presets like flat, pop or club. Or you can adjust the frequencies to your specifications. This app has some interesting connectivity features that go well beyond what other headphones can do.
