PROS / These were the most comfortable headphones (they only weigh 6.9 ounces), so they’re perfect for all day use.
CONS / The battery life on these headphones isn't very long. You'll want to throw in an extra AAA battery when you pack for a trip.
VERDICT / If you listen to music at work or when you're studying, the Bose QuietComfort 25 are the most comfortable headphones of the noise-cancelling variety.
The Bose QuietComfort 25 noise-cancelling headphones live up to their name. These headphones successfully cancel noise and are extremely comfortable and light to wear. These are the best headphones for long-term wear.
To test the noise-cancelling performance of each of the 11 headphones on our list, we had expert reviewers listen to external noises both with and without active noise cancellation (ANC) on. We found, on average, that ANC cancelled up to 11.6 more decibels than it did than when it was in passive mode. Overall, with 60 dB of music playing through the headphones, these cancelled, on average, 78.6 dB, which is pretty close to our top three performers.
The sound quality of the Bose QuietComfort 25 headphones was about average. They sound much better with ANC on versus off, and, fortunately, don’t get louder when you turn ANC on. Our testers said they noticed some distortion and not much clarity.
The Bose QuietComfort 25 headphones lasted for almost 14 hours in our ANC battery life test. This is on the low side, but in passive mode, the headphones can last up to 35 hours. Since these aren’t chargeable, you have to replace the single AAA battery that powers the ANC every once in a while. The good news is the Bose QuietComfort 25 works passively, so you can still listen without battery power.
We found the Bose QuietComfort 25 headphones were the best noise-cancelling headphones for comfort. These extremely lightweight headphones only weigh 6.9 ounces (the lightest of our review) and didn’t give our reviewers headaches. Further, the earcups are the perfect size and shape; they fit well on all ear types. These headphones never started to hurt, nor did they squeeze ears or add unnecessary weight, making one's head feel weighed down. Super plush ear cups and the headband are perfect for wearing for hours of listening time.
On one of the earcups is a small button that lets you switch ANC on and off. When the LED light is green, that means ANC is on and your battery is full. To conserve battery power, you can always listen without ANC turned on.
The Bose QuietComfort 25 noise-cancellation headphones might not be the most powerful, but they really are the most comfortable. These had no complaints from any of our test team members about the size and fit of the headphones, and their noise-cancelling abilities are nearly up to par with the top three performers.
