Video & Audio
The video quality of this nanny cam was impressive. It excelled in our video quality test under daytime conditions. The camera produced sharp, high definition recordings and earned a score of 100 percent in our evaluations. We could see details without any issue, from small graphics to facial features.
Although this camera produced excellent video quality in daylight conditions, it produced only average quality video when the lighting was low. In our test of nighttime video quality, this wireless nanny cam only received a score of 83 percent. This was quite good compared to the lowest of 35 percent, but still lower than the best. Our low-light test recordings were slightly blurry, and details became indistinguishable at 15 feet. However, even with low lighting, the objects were visible and easy to discern.
This spy camera can record at a resolution of 1080P, but the resolution is adjustable down to 480P. We tested this camera using the 960P resolution, one setting lower than its highest resolution. It’s worth nothing that when we made recordings using the highest resolution setting of 1080P, the footage felt choppy. If you prefer a smooth video, you can lower the resolution. However, even at lower resolutions, the video quality remains clear and easy to view.
This nanny cam has robust recording options due to its app. Most nanny cams have two modes only – motion detection or continuous recording. This one has quite a few more. With its dedicated app, you can set the time you want it to record, tell it how long run and specify which resolution. You can also record live as you watch the camera footage on the app, or you can take still images. All these recording options are controlled through the app, making the nanny cam convenient to use.
The only recording options that this unit doesn't have is vibration and sound detection. This isn't a major issue, as we found the motion detection to be effective on this nanny cam. The sensitivity for the motion sensor can even be adjusted in the app. In fact, the motion detector, when on its highest setting, is actually too sensitive. Any types of movement, from shadows to television shows, will trigger it.
All in all, this nanny cam excels in its recording options. It not only has more than most models, its app allows a convenient way to set and adjust them.
The standout feature of this nanny cam is its app integration. Of the 10 nanny cams we reviewed, this was the only one that offers such a convenient way to control the device. This app provides a lot more features that the others don't have, such as live access and robust settings.
Although the app is useful, there are some drawbacks to this nanny cam’s design. The camera is quite visible on the front. There's also an indication light under the camera. You can clearly see the camera's lens if you look closely. Furthermore, the back plate also needs to be taken off for the camera to work. This leaves a large battery exposed, as well as the SD card. This design attracts more attention, making it less covert.
The app, for all its convenience, is also complicated to set up. The instructions are written in poorly translated English, which caused us some confusion and frustration. It took us about thirty minutes to get everything working – a far cry from other models that took seconds to set up and begin using. In addition, viewing the recordings was also initially difficult. The files on the SD card were unreadable using the standard Windows Media Player. We needed to install a third-party program in order to view them.
However, as an added bonus to purchasing this hidden nanny cam, you also receive a mini camera. You can use it as a dash camera for your car or hide it in an obscure place in your home.
Help & Support
This nanny cam comes with restricted support. Although the cam has a one-year warranty, the manufacturer is based in China, making communication and shipping relatively inconvenient. However, the company does appear to be dedicated to its customers.
The Eyeclub Spy Clock has a wealth of features, but be aware that it only offers mediocre night vision and can be difficult to set up. Though once the app has been set up, it provides an easy way to adjust settings on the camera and check footage, giving you more control and convenience compared to other nanny cams.
