PROS / The Belkin NetCam HD+ is compatible with WeMo smart home products.
CONS / This camera's loud audio is hard to understand.
VERDICT / The Belkin NetCam HD+ has the best nighttime video in our review. However, its audio quality is poor.
The Belkin NetCam HD+ has excellent nighttime video quality and good daytime video. This is the opposite of most of the cameras we tested, which have better daytime video quality. This wireless camera works with the WeMo smart home system, also a Belkin product. Although we found its audio to be rather weak, it has a two-year warranty that exceeds those of its competitors.
In daylight testing, the camera had good video quality, but it was no match for the best wireless cameras we tested. Part of this comes down to the camera's 720p video resolution, which is less detailed than that of 1080p cameras. Our low-light test results didn't have the same clarity as those of the bright daylight tests, but they were good enough for us to identify people at a distance. The Belkin NetCam HD+'s biggest strength is nighttime video quality; it produced the best result of any wireless camera we reviewed in the nighttime test.
Our audio testing found that the Belkin NetCam HD+ had the lowest quality among the cameras in our review. While it was loud, the audio wasn't very clear, which made it hard to understand. The camera doesn't offer sound detection, which triggers recording whenever there's sound in the room. However, it has motion detection to track and record movement.
Installing this wireless camera was a little more difficult than setup was for some other cameras in our review. After installation, though, the mobile app was easy to use and user-friendly. Every icon in the app's design clearly shows what it does. The best feature of the app is a scrolling timeline that shows video clips and motion alerts.
The WeMo DIY home automation system connects the NetCam to security sensors and lights. You can control and monitor all of these via the WeMo app. You can set up the lights to turn on when the camera detects movement. Since the camera doesn't have local storage, you need to pay a subscription fee to save videos to the cloud.
Belkin offers a two-year warranty on its NetCam products, which is the best warranty of the wireless camera systems we reviewed. In fact, only one other camera in our review offers the same warranty terms. You can get in touch with Belkin over phone and live chat. For additional support information, you can look through the company's tutorials and FAQs.
The Belkin Netcam HD+ wireless camera has excellent nighttime video that is unrivaled by any camera in our review. It gains a few extra features when you hook it up to the WeMo smart home system. Aside from poor audio and decent daytime video, this is a good wireless security camera.
