Author by

PROS / With a 180-degree field of view, this camera can see more of a room than other cameras in our review.

CONS / The nighttime video quality is on the low end of the cameras we tested.

VERDICT / The D-Link DCS-2630L's daytime video quality matches that of the best wireless cameras. The camera is easy to use, but its nighttime video and audio quality are lacking.

The D-Link DCS-2630L shares a perfect daytime video score with only two other cameras in our review. This wireless camera's mobile app is simple and convenient to use. However, the camera suffers from low audio and nighttime video quality.

During our daylight video testing, the D-Link DCS-2630L produced outstanding video quality in low-light and bright environments. Its low-light results were slightly better than those in bright light. This wireless camera's daytime video produces clear images overall and records moving objects or people with almost no lag or distortion.

With a 180-degree field of view, the D-Link DCS-2630L can show everything in front of the lens. This is the widest field of view of the cameras in our review. This type of lens creates a minor stretching of the image around the edge of the video, also called a fisheye effect, but it's normal and doesn't affect the camera's normal operation and video quality.

The camera didn't fare as well at night as it did in daytime tests. Its infrared LEDs are almost too bright, washing out details close to the lens. This gave it a below-average result for the cameras we tested. However, you can still identify people and small details within 10 feet, making it effective for most situations. The camera's audio quality was also somewhat poor, as it was not always understandable.

The D-Link DCS-2630L is nearly as easy to use as our best wireless camera. The mobile app has simple labels and icons that make it easy to navigate. There are also numerous features, including an option to put technical data on the video, such as the current resolution, bit rate and frame rate.

In order to record video, you must use a microSD card, since the camera doesn't have a cloud storage option. The camera supports cards up to 128GB, the largest local storage capacity among the wireless camera systems we reviewed. You can get the most out of the memory card by setting a schedule. Likewise, you can set up sound and motion detection to prevent the camera from recording an empty room.

In the event of a manufacturing defect, you can contact D-Link within one year of your purchase to arrange a replacement. The company's customer service department is available via email and telephone. You can also browse tutorials and a FAQs section on the D-Link support website.

The D-Link DCS-2630L's outstanding daylight video performance is the best reason to choose this camera. Additionally, it offers an unmatched field of view and a helpful mobile app. Although the camera is lacking in nighttime video and audio quality, it's worth considering for your home.
