PROS / Of the wireless cameras we tested, the Foscam C2 has the best audio.
CONS / There's noticeable lag when motion happens in the video feed.
VERDICT / The Foscam C2 has exceptional audio and daytime video. However, it can be hard to use at times and has trouble with nighttime video.
The Foscam C2 compares well with the top wireless cameras, especially in terms of audio and daytime video. It comes with many useful features, such as sound detection and digital zoom. However, it's more difficult to install than other wireless cameras we tested.
In the absence of moving objects during our tests, the camera's video in both bright and low-light settings was excellent. The Foscam C2 nearly matched the video quality of the best wireless cameras. With our poster board 16 feet away from the camera, we could discern the top four lines of text. Few cameras in our review produced such a result. The camera also has digital zoom and a wide-angle lens that offers good coverage of a room.
However, once something moved in front of the camera, in both the live feed and recordings, the camera struggled to accurately capture the image. The symptoms of lag were apparent: The video would momentarily freeze and fast-forward to catch up with real time. During the night, the camera's LEDs could only light the whole room rather dimly, much less than similar 1080p wireless cameras, so its nighttime video doesn't have as impressive quality as its daytime video.
Our audio testing revealed the Foscam C2's best attribute. Its audio is easy to understand and not overly loud, whether you listen through the camera's speaker or the mobile app. The Foscam C2 is the only camera in our review to earn a perfect audio score in our tests.
The Foscam C2 has the most complicated setup process of any camera we tested. While it has three different Wi-Fi setup options, each involves more steps and time than any other wireless camera. During installation, we also discovered that Foscam offers multiple mobile apps. This camera requires the one that is simply called Foscam.
After installation, the app is easy enough to use without any major issues. It lets you configure features like sound and motion detection in order to manage the storage more efficiently. The Foscam C2 is one of two wireless camera systems we tested that offers both cloud and local storage options for your footage.
Foscam offers a one-year warranty on its cameras, similar to the rest of the industry. The company's customer service department is available over email, live chat and telephone. For troubleshooting problems on your own, there are tutorials and FAQs on the support website.
The Foscam C2 has outstanding audio quality, the best in our review. It also has very good daytime video, but it doesn't handle movement very well, especially when live streaming the video on the mobile app. Overall, this is a good camera for basic monitoring, though the higher-ranked cameras offer better night vision.
