Miele Scout RX1 Review

Author by

PROS / It is quiet enough to not be disturbing.

CONS / There is no virtual wall and only a short marker to keep the vacuum within boundaries.

VERDICT / The Miele Scout RX1 picks up messes thoroughly and quietly when it is not hampered by a lack of boundaries.

The Miele Scout RX1 robot vacuum is one of the most thorough carpet and hard-surface cleaners you can find. If you are tired of loud, heavy vacuums that make your back feel broken, then this robotic vacuum is one of the best ways to take the next step into a more comfortable way of getting your house clean.

This robot vacuum cleaner has one of the quietest operative modes of any robot vacuum we tested, measuring at just 56 dB. It allows you to go about your business without feeling like your quiet time is being interrupted, particularly if you only have a small space you want it to clean.

  1. This score depends on how the robovac handled obstacles such as furniture, thresholds and rugs.

If you have a home with a lot of floor space and need to set boundaries for the Miele Scout RX1 to clean only specific areas, then it requires more of a guiding hand. There are no virtual walls to keep it in place, and the magnetic marker is short and doesn't cover more than a small doorway’s worth of space. You can use the spot cleaning function to help keep it in smaller spaces, but it might still bump into things or be set too widely to keep within your boundaries.

The Miele Scout RX1 is a little heavy at 12.2 pounds, which is the heaviest for any robotic vacuum we tested. There is also no carrying handle, so you might have trouble storing it or moving it from one spot to another.

The robot vacuum cleaner performed best when it was picking up more solid objects, like cat litter and breadcrumbs, leaving almost none behind. It had a rougher time thoroughly cleaning thinner matter, like pet hair.

When we ordered the Miele Scout RX1, we had to send the first model back because it refused to start after it was charged, and we were told by a company representative that we could bring it to a service center for repairs. If you run into this situation, then the robot vacuum has a two-year warranty, which is twice as long as many other vacuums. There is also an online user manual, although there are no tutorials.

With enough power to clean up heavy messes with little noise, the Miele Scout RX1 can clean up messes within a small area well. There are some shortcomings in its ability to stay within boundaries, but it has enough power to make your home look cleaner in a short period of time.
