It’s good to see a big name making one of the best countertop dishwashers for smaller kitchens. The Black + Decker BCD6W dishwasher has plenty of useful features, many of which you would find in a bigger appliance and it performs well too ensuring your dishes and cutlery are sparkling after every wash.

However, the good reputation of the brand does mean a few extra dollars on the price, but you definitely get what you pay for. If you'd rather spend that cash on a full size model, be sure to check out our guide to the best dishwashers.

Black + Decker BCD6W review: Features

Black + Decker offers plenty of options with its BCD6W countertop dishwasher and there are seven programs to choose from. These are: Heavy, Normal, Babycare, Eco, Glass, Speed and Rinse. The inclusion of a Babycare cycle will be welcomed in plenty of households, with the program also ideal for crystal, glasses and fine china.

This countertop dishwasher does not come with a separate tank, but as is standard with most similar models, the Black + Decker BCD6W includes a ‘quick connect’ kit with inlet and drain hose, as well as a faucet adapter. If you would prefer a model with a tank, then check out the Farberware FDW05ASBWHA.

Because of the lack of a water tank, it must be placed near a faucet in order to get its water supply. The plumbing attachments are just shy of 60 inches long, so you should have plenty of room to play with. If it suits your kitchen setup, another option is to place the appliance on a trolley, so it can be stored away when not in use.

Other features include a handy child-lock, as well as a delay-start function for up to 24 hours so you can start your chosen cycle at a time that’s convenient for you. You can also pause the cycle to open the dishwasher if you have forgotten to load an item or need to quickly grab something mid-wash.

Black + Decker BCD6W review: Design

As you would imagine from a brand such as Black and Decker, this countertop dishwasher looks the part. In fact, at first glance, with its dark front-panel and sleek handle, you might even confuse it for an oven. With a standard high-quality white finish, it’s ideal for any kitchen too.

Easy to load and empty with a slide-out dish rack, the BCD6W comfortably holds up to six place settings, and can accommodate plates up to 10 inches in diameter. There is also a removable cutlery basket, as well as a handy cup rack.

We like the smart-looking LED display with intuitive touch controls that are simple to use. On the control panel, you will find the power button and the clear display, which also shows the delay time and rinse-aid warning on top of the selected program. Black + Decker BCD6W review: Performance & efficiency

The BCD6W dishwasher performs well and gets dishes sparkling. However, as with most dishwashers, some heavier more dried-on foods might need to be rinsed off first. Talking of which, the filtering system keeps the appliance efficient, although it’s recommended that you clean it out once a week for optimum performance.

In terms of economy, the Black + Decker BCD6W is an Energy Star rated low-energy appliance with the Heavy program taking 100 minutes while using 0.49 kWh of electricity and 12.5 liters of water. Meanwhile, the standard Normal wash takes 110 minutes and uses 0.36 kWh of electricity and 10.8 liters of water. The Eco mode runs at 75 minutes, using up just 0.25 kWh and 10 liters.

Black + Decker BCD6W review: User reviews

The Black + Decker BCD6W is a popular choice with customers across several online retailers including Walmart, Wayfair, and Amazon, with plenty of five-star ratings from the latter. Amazon customers also give top marks for energy efficiency, ease of installation, and value for money.

There was plenty of positive feedback about the efficiency of the machine, with customers leaving comments such as: “I am amazed at how clean the dishes come out” on Amazon, and: “This little dishwasher is so quiet, cleans the dishes perfectly and holds a lot!” at Walmart.

Less favorable reviews mentioned that the appliance was larger than expected or that the connection to the faucet wasn’t always reliable. So it’s best to check measurements first, as well as if your faucet is up to the job.

Should you buy the Black + Decker BCD6W?

If a big-name brand, good quality, and smart looks are important to you – and you don’t mind paying for it – then the Black + Decker BCD6W is a great choice. As well as being nicely quiet in operation, it’s also economical with electricity and water, so you will get money back this way. However, in terms of features, you will find the same functions in similar machines such as the Magic Chef MCSCD6B5 for a lower price.
