Pros / You can synchronize the Belkin NetCam HD+ with other smart home products.
Cons / The audio we recorded in tests was loud but indecipherable.
Verdict / The Belkin NetCam HD+ produces surprisingly good nighttime video, but the daytime video is subpar and the audio unclear.
The Belkin NetCam HD+ contrasts with some other home security cameras by offering surprisingly good nighttime video, which is a weak spot of several competitors. This versatile security camera is also compatible with WeMo smart home products, allowing you to control it with your mobile device. However, it falls short in overall video quality.
During our daytime tests, this security camera performed adequately, but with disappointing clarity compared to the best security cameras that produce consistently high-quality video, like the Flir FX. This camera's 720p video resolution had a tough time competing with the 1080p technology of the better security cameras in our reviews. The video quality in low light, while still lacking clarity somewhat, is good enough for you to identify a person from dozens of feet away. In our nighttime tests, however, the Belkin Netcam really shone, outperforming the competition in range and clarity. This is largely because of hidden LEDs that turn on when the camera is activated at night.
Audio quality was also problematic. While it was loud enough to hear, the speech was unintelligible. The two-way audio is a nice feature to have, but we ran several tests and couldn't make out most of what was said on the recording. Another nice feature this camera has is motion detection, so it starts recording when it senses motion. However, it lacks sound detection, so you will miss off-camera audio.
This Wi-Fi security camera is also difficult to set up, largely because of its oddly designed stand, which makes it feel less stable than other cameras we tested. It therefore took more time than average to install in our testing. Once it was set up, however, it was easy enough to use. On the plus side, the app is well-designed and user-friendly. The icons are self-explanatory, and an intuitive scrolling timeline gives you access to informative video clips and other features.
The Belkin NetCam HD+'s home automation compatibility lets you sync your lights, appliances and security camera all from the same device. For example, the light turns on at the same time that the camera detects motion and starts recording, so you can capture what is happening in the camera's range. You have to pay extra for Belkin's cloud storage service plan. You can view video clip notifications on your mobile device, but not still images. The camera comes with a generous two-year warranty, which is the best of any camera we reviewed. If you have questions or concerns after purchasing the camera, you can contact Belkin directly by phone or live chat. You can also access FAQs and tutorials on the company website.

The Belkin Netcam HD+ is a wireless security camera with 720p video resolution that is adequate, but lacks the clarity of the best cameras. However, the hidden LEDs contribute to excellent clarity and range for nighttime monitoring. This camera is also compatible with WeMo smart home integration, which is an uncommon feature that allows you to sync the device with other household items. This security camera has motion detection but not audio detection, and the audio recordings are indecipherable.
