It's still a little early in the month for some of us to be panicking about Christmas gift shopping, but equally, past experiences should have taught us that preparedness can be the key to getting something a loved one really, really loves instead of a last-minute buy from the mall.

This coffee maker deal is a true find, with Amazon offering the excellent (trust us, we gave it 5* in our review) Breville Barista Touch Impress Espresso Machine for $300 less. It's still not cheap, granted, but for an espresso machine that does it all, it's the caffeine lover's dream appliance.

The Touch Impress has a touch screen and the ability to froth different types of milk, and the guided menu, grinder, and puck system make it easy for both beginners and experts to use. The rapid heat-up and intelligent grinding are seriously impressive, and you're offered Barista-grade advice on the perfect grind size, milk temperature, and froth level.

Breville Barista Touch Impress: Our verdict

The Breville Barista Touch Impress is a machine that is sure to impress any coffee lover. With its touch screen and ability to froth different types of milk, it stands out from other similarly-specced machines. The guided menu, grinder, and puck system make it easy for beginners and experts alike to use, and the rapid heat-up and intelligent grinding are seriously impressive.

We particularly loved the touch screen, which displays a menu of drink options to choose from. You can also create your preferred drinks, but this involves changing each setting manually. The machine offers Barista-grade advice on the perfect grind size, milk temperature, and froth level, and you can easily adjust the strength and preferred foaminess. You can also select the milk type, with special settings for dairy, almond, soy, and oats available.

The machine's ability to froth different types of milk is a particularly impressive feature. We compared the results side by side using semi-skimmed lactose-free cow milk and an oat milk brand designed for baristas, and the machine was excellent at creating similar results across different types of milk. The flat white with oat milk even tasted creamier than its counterpart.
