Top Ten Reviews Verdict

The LG WT7900HBA is a large capacity top load washer that comes with lots of smart features which make short work of big loads, fast washes and this does it all with smart connectivity. Of course that does make this an expensive pick and the deep drum could be a little difficult to unload for shorter users.

Being from LG this model is very attractive looking meaning it will enhance the look of any room it lives in. Plus you have all those LG smarts crammed in there too meaning you have features like smart connectivity and specialist washing functions.

This is one of the more expensive washers out there but that may be something we'd expect with the long features list from this top name brand. Also the length of warranty is decent meaning you do get some peace of mind for longer term lastability coming from that price tag.

LG WT7900HBA Review

LG WT7900HBA: Design

  • Top-loader
  • Glass lid
  • Deep drum

The LG WT7900HBA is a good looking washer with that dark metallic finish, chrome edging and minimalist control panel at the rear. It's also relatively compact when you consider this offers a massive 5.5 cubic feet of washing capacity. The unit stands at 27" x 44 1/2" x 28 3/8" meaning it should fit most standard washing unit spaces with ease. Just be sure to factor in space for that top lid to open.

On the lid, this is a glass feature which allows you to see into the washer without the need to pause a cycle, so you can get an idea of what is going on and what is in that load.

The controls are super simple with a large metallic dial that can be moved to select each cycle which is clearly labelled on the display section. There is also a lid display which shows data like time left. But you can also pair an app for even more control over WiFi, but more on that in the features section below.

LG WT7900HBA: Features

  • WiFi connected
  • Deep Fill mode
  • TurboWash3D

The LG WT7900HBA is crammed with smart features as you'd expect from this Korean brand. WiFi is standard, allowing you to monitor the status of your wash from your smartphone wherever you are. One of the best parts of this is that you get a notification when the cycle is complete, right on your phone. But there are more hands-on features that also make this a stand-out model.

TurboWash3D was clearly designed for those people who have busy lives and may want to get a quick wash done in a hurry. As such this is built to give a comprehensive wash of your clothes within 30-minutes. Unlike other half hour washing machine functions, this one is designed to not just go faster but to offer a deeper clean too.

In fact this 29 minute clean is the standard on this machine, making it far more effective at doing several loads than the average machine where a Normal wash takes around 54 minutes.

The lid is worth a mention too as it is glass, meaning you can see your load at a glance with ease. But it also features a soft-close mechanism which is really nice when you leave it to shut and walk away knowing it will close quietly and seal properly. A relatively small detail but a touch which is appreciated in day to day use.

Steam cleaning is another great feature. This allows you to get a deeper clean that will sanitize your clothes so there are no bugs or germs left on them – ideal if you have kids. But it will also help to get rid of any creases which can mean skipping the ironing if you hang items out right after, saving you even more time and money.

LG WT7900HBA: Price and availability

The LG WT7900HBA is priced at $1,349.99 but you will likely find discounts as it is already lower in price on the official website, at time of publishing.

While you can buy this directly from LG, it is also available from lots of other retailers. That includes big names like Best Buy, Amazon, Home Depot, Sears and more.

There is a one year parts and labor warranty which, to be honest, is pretty basic and surprising for this brand. That said, you do get a 10 year motor and three year drum warranty.

LG WT7900HBA: User reviews

Head over to Best Buy and you'll see this top load washer is going down very well with 611 reviews and a 4.7 out of 5 star rating. That breaks down to 501 five star ratings, 68 four star, 10 three star, 3 two star, and 29 one star ratings.

One five star rating said: "I like that it is about a cubic foot bigger than my 25 year old model, yet it is about the same footprint... Looks great and I feel like I’m going to fall in when retrieving clothes and it is huge!"

A one star rating said: "We bought this in June 2022 and it died February 2023. We were careful to not overload, too much soap etc. when during a small load wash, to find water running across the floor and spraying out of a new hump in the lower area on the rear of the washer."

LG WT7900HBA: Expert advice

LG is eager to make it clear that its product is all about fighting allergies and as such has filters that are made to help protect people.

Sandro Ledesma, Senior Manager of Product Management for LG Electronics, told Top Ten Reviews: "It has been certified as an Energy Star rated machine, saving energy and operating costs for energy-conscious consumers. Additionally, it has been listed as CEE Tier 1 for states potentially awarding rebates to consumers. Using inverter motor technology, the washer can clean clothes more efficiently with greater motion control of the wash system."

Kenneth Mendez, President and CEO of AAFA,. said: "Nasal allergies affect an estimated 50 million Americans – and what many might not realize is that clothing, shoes and even pets are top ways that pollen and other irritants are transferred into the home in addition to open windows.

"You can start fighting back against allergies this season by taking the right steps to reduce these allergens in your home. Certified asthma and allergy friendly products like LG's laundry systems, vacuums and air purifiers have been proven to reduce or remove allergy triggers."

LG WT7900HBA: Verdict

The LG WT7900HBA is a superbly well connected, beautifully designed and relatively well priced machine. It does well at washing fast while still giving a deep clean so that anyone with multiple loads can work through them faster with this smart washer.

Since this also offers a massive 5.5 cubic feet of washing capacity, you may find that fewer loads are needed to wash lots of clothes, at speed. As such this is well suited to families that do a large load, or several, once a week.

This is also a power efficient model meaning it could save you on energy costs in the longer term, making this a good investment.

How does it compare?

If you'd like to consider a front-load option then perhaps the Samsung WF42H5000AW is for you. This model features a 4.2 cubic feet capacity, 10 year motor warranty, self cleans, has a diagnostic phone app, and features nine different cycle modes. An ideal pick for anyone that wants a reliable washer that's going to last.

Or go for the Maytag MVW6500MBK if you have hairy pets as this unit is all about clearing out hair. This has a dedicated mode as well as a filter which collects the hair and is easy to remove and clean out. It also offers plenty of other modes, cleans deeply and comes with a decent warranty.

The Samsung WA49B5205AW is another top-load washer option which is our top rated over all. This is thanks to an all round offering that includes a shallow tub for easy access – making it ideal for shorter users or those with back issues. You also get a decent 4.4 cubic feet capacity and a massive 20 year warranty on the digital inverter motor.
