If your living area is cramped and cannot accommodate a regular washing machine, but you’re just plain weary of hauling clothes to the laundromat, the Kenmore 44422 is a good all-around portable washing machine. This washer can keep your wardrobe, towels, bed linens and delicate items in great shape. The Kenmore offers six washing cycles including normal, delicate, heavy, rinse, spin and one to clean the machine itself.
You also get three water temperatures: hot, warm and cold, and three water levels: high, medium and small, so you can adjust the machine to suit the kinds of clothing and fabrics you’ve included in an individual load.
This compact portable washing machine uses little energy and costs approximately $12 a year to operate under normal conditions. Given its considerable weight of 225 pounds, it is certainly heavier than all the other models in our comparison, but you can move it since it comes with casters and has handles. It also has adjustable feet so you can put it firmly in place once you get it where you want it.
At 37 inches in height, 23 inches in width and 21 inches in depth, this machine is about average in size for a portable washer, and it can be stored in a closet or hidden corner so you have more space in your living quarters. The interior is 1.6 cubic feet so you can get a reasonably good-sized load of laundry washed with this machine. It does not come with a noise reduction plate, so you likely will be hearing the washer at work quite clearly when you are doing loads of laundry.
Made of stainless steel with a stainless steel basket, the Kenmore 44422 is a robust machine that is designed to resist dents and chips, and it should last for a long time.
Rather than the standard agitator that sticks up from the bottom of a traditional washer, this portable washer uses a wash plate on the bottom of the machine that gently but thoroughly cleans clothes without damaging them. The delicate wash also helps you safely clean fabrics that are less sturdy than others. Unfortunately, you do not get a quick cycle or a soak only interval.
This portable washing machine spins clothes faster than any other we reviewed at a rate of 850 rpm, which means there will be very little moisture in your laundry load once it’s done and drying will take less time.
You get several helpful features with this machine including dispensers for detergent, fabric softener and bleach, and an end-of-cycle signal so you know it’s time to get the clothing out. It also comes with a great safety feature: a child lock so curious youngsters cannot start the machine and risk some kind of mishap. However, you do not get a remaining time indicator or the opportunity to load the washer and then use a delayed start option.
If you need help with any problems, you can contact the manufacturer through phone or email, and there is an online manual on the company website. This is covered by a one-year warranty, which is standard in this industry. You do not get a FAQs section or live chat.
The Kenmore 44422 is a sturdy portable washing machine that can take on various types of clothing, bedding and more, and it can clean different types of fabrics using little energy. It is very heavy and lacks some convenient features, but overall this washer gets the job done.
