Pros / It has a bright, multi-functional digital display.

Cons / It’s not Energy Star certified and can run up your electric bill.

Verdict / The Summit SPWD2200 looks great and has a bright display but can cost you more on water and electricity than other machines in the long run.

The Summit SPWD2200 washer dryer combo has 2 cubic feet of washing and drying capacity and a big, easy-to-read digital display. It’s compact, though slightly bigger than 2 feet in length, meaning it could stick out a bit in smaller closets. It has several washer settings and competes with the best washer dryer combos in functionality.

The machine has seven different washing cycles. That’s enough for most basic loads but half the amount of higher-ranked machines. It does benefit from having fully controllable drying cycles and the ability to adjust the temperature. This is one of the better machines for washing, as it allows you to control several different settings, such as spin speed, and you can save your favorite setting for quick operation.

A big concern with this machine is that it’s not Energy Star certified. To receive an Energy Star certification, a machine needs to be 20 percent more efficient than the industry standard. This means you run the risk of higher electric bills every time you run the unit. It doesn’t come with automatic load sense either, so the machine may use a lot more water than a load size requires.

It’s a nice looking combination washer dryer and has a big door with a transparent lid, so you can load it quickly. It also has a child lock and the ability to delay your wash for a time when you’re out of the house. This is a nice feature since there is no vibration reduction or the ability to silence signals. If the load gets uneven, you should expect the machine to be a bit louder than others we reviewed.

The support on the company’s website isn’t the best, but there still is access to a customer service phone number and online manual. Summit works with dealers, so you aren’t able to buy directly from the manufacturer. There also isn’t a lot of do-it-yourself support like videos or FAQs. The warranty on parts, labor, drum and motor is a standard one-year warranty.

Summary

This is a good, small unit with a bright display and easy-to-understand controls, but it lacks the environmentally friendly functionality of other units. You end up using a lot more water than necessary and can expect a higher electric bill than with other units we reviewed. On the other hand, the price tag is lower than most units, so you save money up front.
