PROS / This model not only vacuums hardwood floors without damaging them, but it also washes and dries them quickly and efficiently.
CONS / This vacuum does not have a hose or any attachments to help you clean hard-to-reach places.
VERDICT / While the Hoover FloorMate SpinScrub vacuums, washes and dries bare floors, it lacks several features that help protect hardwood floors. It also does not come with a hose or any cleaning attachments.
The Hoover FloorMate SpinScrub combines vacuuming and mopping into one model. This hard floor vacuum picks up dirt and food, washes floors and then dries them. As such, the model works well as a hardwood floor vacuum. Unlike most vacuums that have a brush-roll shutoff, this vacuum uses soft bristles that help pull food and dirt off the floor like an electric broom. While this ensures a clean floor, particles may become trapped in the brushes.
The vacuum has a motor that runs on six amps. While it has less power than most vacuums, the brushes help pull particles off the floor. When running, the vacuum's sound measures at 87 decibels, which is louder than most of the other vacuums in our review.
The Hoover vacuum has two containers to hold the dirty and clean water. It also has a filter that helps capture the dirt and clean the air. It has a 32-ounce dirt cup that collects both the dirt you vacuum and the dirty water from washing. The clean water container holds one gallon of water, minimizing how often you need to add water to the vacuum.
The washing function of this hardwood floor vacuum is only for hardwood floors or bare floors; you cannot use it on multiple surfaces. This hard floor vacuum does not allow you to change its suction or height, limiting what floors you can vacuum and how effectively it picks up dirt. When testing the vacuum, it only picked up 52 percent of the dust we laid down.
With wooden floors, you want a lightweight vacuum that will limit the amount of pressure it puts on the floor. While this model works on hardwood floors, it is heavy. It weighs almost 17 pounds; however, the rubber wheels help offset the weight.
The vacuum has a wide 13-inch cleaning path that helps you clean a room quickly and efficiently. It also has a 27-foot cord. Rather than plugging in the vacuum in every room, the cord extends far and reduces how often you have to plug it into a new outlet.
While the vacuum helps you complete three tasks easily, it does not come with any cleaning attachments or tools. The vacuum does not have a detachable hose, nor any brushes or wands. This significantly limits what areas you can clean with the vacuum.
The vacuum only comes with a one-year warranty that covers labor and parts against defects in the material of the vacuum and workmanship. To contact the company, the website lists a telephone number and email. You can also search for service centers on the website. If you run into difficulties, the Hoover website has a FAQs section, online manuals and videos depicting how to use the vacuum.
The Hoover FloorMate SpinScrub vacuum performs effectively as a bare floor vacuum. It combines three common household tasks into one machine that is gentle enough to use on hardwood floors. While it cleans bare floors quickly, the machine lacks several features and cleaning tools that help you clean wood flooring.
