The EdgeStar DEP500WP dehumidifier works well at removing moisture from living rooms under 800 square feet in size. This means it is well-suited for small bedrooms or bathrooms. It extracts 50 pints in a 24-hour period. This is lower than some of the top-ranked dehumidifiers, which, by comparison, remove up to 70 pints. However, most of these units are designed for an entire house rather than small spaces.

This portable dehumidifier has a couple of unique features that make it a good choice for use in basements or garages. First, it can withstand temperatures as low as 41 degrees Fahrenheit. Second, the auto defrost feature prevents the water and moisture in the machine from freezing.

The water-collection reservoir holds up to 18 pints, which is the largest capacity of any dehumidifier we reviewed. This means you won't have to check on and empty the reservoir as often as you would with other units.

One important feature the EdgeStar DEP500WP has is automatic shut-off. This feature automatically turns the unit off when the reservoir is full so that it doesn't overflow. The EdgeStar has a small window on the bucket so you can see how much water has accumulated in the reservoir. It also has an indicator light that flashes when the reservoir is full and needs to be emptied.

If you don't want to empty the bucket at all, you can connect a hose (either a standard garden hose or the hose that EdgeStar provides with the unit) to the built-in adapter on the back of the unit so that water drains continuously. This dehumidifier doesn't come with a built-in pump. Therefore, you will need to position the dehumidifier so that the hose can easily empty water into a nearby drain. You can also buy a drain pump separately.

EdgeStar offers a one-year parts warranty, but the labor warranty is only 90 days from the date of purchase. Unlike the best dehumidifiers, the EdgeStar DEP500WP doesn't come with an extended warranty that covers the sealed system, which is the most expensive part of a dehumidifier to fix.

You can download the user manual on the EdgeStar website. You can also call or email customer support directly for assistance with your dehumidifier.

The EdgeStar DEP500WP is an energy-efficient dehumidifier that effectively removes moisture from small living areas. While it lacks automatic shut-off, it has a water-level view window and a full water-reservoir alert, which make it easy to monitor the water levels of your dehumidifier.
