Pros / This vacuum was the top performer in cleaning and suction.
Cons / This was not the easiest vacuum to maneuver.
Verdict / The Bissell C4 Cyclonic stands out with its powerful suction and superior design.
The Bissell C4 Cyclonic has all the most important attributes you need in a bagless canister vacuum. The 12-amp motor is powerful, handles large debris and doesn't make a lot of unnecessary noise during operation. The extension wand has the cleaning accessories right on the handle, so there's no need to rummage around in your closet for the right tool. The canister is the largest of those we tested so you do not have to stop to empty it as often. For all these reasons, this is one of the best canister vacuums and earns our Top Ten Reviews Silver Award.

This was one of the strongest canister vacuums we tested. The C4 Cyclonic works well on all surfaces. The extension wand has a simple switch for turning the brush roll on the head of the vacuum on or off. This is a great option that other canister vacuums don't have. The brush roll is great for carpet, but it hinders your ability to pick up large bits on hardwood or linoleum.
The C4 Cyclonic proved this difference in our performance tests. We spread flour to simulate fine dust, and the C4 Cyclonic cleaned the entire area after four passes on both low- and medium-profile carpet. This canister vacuum cleaner excels on thick carpet especially. It digs into deep spots much better than more lightweight canister vacuums. Best of all, it offers all this power at a low volume. At 71 dB, this tied for the quietest canister we compared.
One concern we had is that this vacuum does not boast true HEPA filtration. In fact, it's one of only two units in our lineup that doesn't come with the qualification. While it's one of the best in sheer performance, the cyclonic filter is not the best choice for families with a greater need to reduce allergens in the air. For something with stronger filtration, check out the Dyson Cinetic.
What this vacuum lacks in maneuverability, it makes up for in convenient features that make it so you don't have to drag it around as often. This canister has the largest capacity in our lineup at 2.2 liters, which means you don't have to empty it as often. The vacuum has a large carrying handle right on top of the base. You won't be thrilled lugging a 15-pound vacuum up and down stairs, but this handle makes it somewhat easier.
The good news is that, once the vacuum is in the room you need to clean, you don't have to move it around often. The hose, at nearly 10 feet, is the longest available on the canister vacuums we reviewed. Add a few more feet with the extension wand and you should be able to cover most rooms corner to corner.
This vacuum is also one of the easiest to maintain. The bin clicks off the base and has smooth walls that resist accumulating dust. When the time comes to empty the bin, the dirt and debris slide right out without extra digging on your part. The cyclonic filter means you don't have to buy replacements either. The filter that comes with the vacuum at purchase is the same filter you'll use for the life of the vacuum.
We were impressed with how well Bissell designed the attachments on this canister vacuum. Most vacuums place the accessories on the base or try to hide them within the handle. Those on the base are hard to reach, and those in the handle never work as well. Instead, the C4 Cyclonic has each full-sized attachment clipped to an area on the handle. When you need to clean in a crevice or on upholstery, you can unclick the tool directly from the wand in your hand and click it onto the top of the hose. The vacuum maintains great suction regardless of the accessory you use.
Help & Support
Bissell has an up-to-date website that's easy to navigate. Its customer service is easy to reach and helpful. Each vacuum comes with professionally edited videos explaining how to use different components of the unit, and the FAQs page is extensive. Bissell offers a five-year warranty on the vacuum, which makes it one of the best canister vacuums for coverage.
The Bissell C4 Cyclonic is not the best bet for anyone with an allergy-sufferer in the house. The bagless models are generally more likely to spread dust around when they are being emptied and the C4 Cyclonic also makes no claims to true HEPA filtration, one of only two in our comparison that lacks that. If you are not as worried about allergens this is a great option. It has strong suction on different flooring surfaces, a large capacity so you do not have to empty it often and a long hose for reaching different types of messes.
