Pros / The cordless design makes it easy to do quick cleanups without hunting for an outlet.

Cons / The vacuum lacks an extendable hose and cleaning attachments.

Verdict / The absence of cleaning tools limits where you can vacuum, but this battery-operated unit’s features offer decent suction and protection for hardwood flooring.

The Hoover Platinum Collection LiNX Cordless Stick Vacuum is in the middle of the pack for suction, but this petite upright is convenient for many reasons. It is cordless, for starters. You don't have to worry about finding the nearest outlet – just pick it up and take it to the mess. While you cannot adjust the suction, this vacuum automatically adjusts its height from the floor to match the most effective distance for the surface you are cleaning. You also can turn off the brushroll when you are vacuuming delicate surfaces, making it a safe vacuum for hardwood floors.

This model doesn’t use bags. Instead, it employs a 32-ounce dirt cup that you can empty from the bottom. It was a little hard to figure out how to put this one back together, but that is only a problem the first time. This bare floor vacuum has a washable filter you can clean and reuse after every session.

Weighing a little over 7 pounds, this lightweight vacuum cleans wooden floors without adding pressure to them. Because it has rubber wheels, you do not have to worry about the vacuum scratching the wood. It has an 11-inch cleaning path that helps you clean quickly and efficiently by covering a large surface area as you go.

This hardwood floor vacuum uses an 18-volt lithium ion battery. The battery powers the vacuum for 15 minutes and only requires a three-hour charge time, which is less than most other battery-operated stick vacuums. With 18 volts, the vacuum produces strong suction.

While the vacuum effectively cleans tile, wood floors, carpets and rugs, it lacks a hose and additional cleaning tools, which makes it difficult to vacuum hard-to-reach edges, crevices or furniture. If you prefer something more versatile, consider the Shark DuoClean Powered Lift-Away Speed.

Summary

The Hoover Platinum Collection LiNX Cordless Stick Vacuum has less suction than quite a few we compared, but it still cleaned up our test messes pretty quickly, especially for a cordless model. While cleaning attachments would make this machine more versatile, its ability to seamlessly switch from vacuuming carpets to safely cleaning hardwood floors makes it a good option if you have both carpet and bare floors. With a battery that runs at least 15 minutes, you can quickly clean up in between your deep cleanings.
