WORX WG304.1: What is it?

Best chainsaws: Worx

This chainsaw is a great option for entry-level jobs.  (Image credit: Amazon)

The WORX WG304.1 chainsaw is a lightweight, easy to handle, electric chainsaw perfect for small domestic jobs. Got a large tree in the garden? This saw will easily cut through small to medium fallen boughs. Have a delivery of wood for the log burner and need it in smaller chunks? The WORX will make light work of it.

Because it is an electric saw it is not powerful enough for larger jobs, like limbing trees, and you will need an extension cord to take it further than a couple of meters from a power source. But it offers a cost effective, low vibration solution to those who need to use a chainsaw only occasionally or those who have limited experience.

WORX WG304.1: Price

With an RRP of just $89.99, the WORX WG304.1 is a great value product even at full ticket. Buy it at Walmart or Home Depot for $84.37. This also comes with a 16” for around $10 less.

WORX WG304.1: Features

WORX WG304.1: specs

An 18-inch bar, 15 amps, corded electric chainsaw, this product is great for basic clear up and chopping small firewood in a large suburban garden. It weighs in a 12lbs, which isn’t light, but it isn’t heavy either where chainsaws are concerned. Although it’s not recommended for tree felling, many users have successfully completed tree felling tasks with this saw, as it is one of the most powerful electric saws on the market.

Because it is electric, it is much lower maintenance than a gas-powered saw, so perfect for more occasional use. Although it doesn’t have any low vibration technology, the WORX WG304.1 has lower vibration than gas powered saws in the same class, making it much more pleasant to use. Electric saws are also much easier to start.

The chain has only 63 links, which is unusual for a saw of this size, but it doesn’t seem to make any difference to the cutting ability. The auto-tensioning system helps to keep the chain in good working order and there is a built-in chain brake for safety. It comes fully assembled and ready to use with a three year warranty.

WORX WG304.1: Performance

While this is a step up from entry level saws, it is still a lightweight electric saw and reviewers at Sawedfish remind you not to push it too hard. It’s perfect for general yard work, but you will need a more powerful gas saw for anything more serious. Sawedfish also notes that some people have found replacement chains difficult to find, but they can be ordered online directly from manufacturer, Oregon.

WORX WG304.1: User reviews

On Amazon, the WORX WG 304.1 has 67% 5-star reviews, with many users stating they were unsure about buying an electric chainsaw but have been generally very pleased. Most consumers have said they believe this product is great value for money. Walmart users have given it 4.5 stars.

Some users who have used the saw for larger jobs haven reported reduced longevity. While the saw is capable of slicing up a fallen tree, it should be noted that isn’t what it has been designed for. Pushing it too hard could result in the product breaking. Other users have noted the chain fell off after the first couple of uses, which is probably a tension issue. Even though it has an auto tension feature, you should keep a close eye on it to start with.

This is a great saw for the novice user who has a slightly bigger yard but doesn’t want to have to maintain a gas-powered chainsaw. Perfect for seasonal clearing jobs and slicing up small diameter firewood, a great value for money product.
