WORX WG320 Cordless JawSaw: What is it?

Best chainsaws: Worx WG320 Cordless JawSaw

The Worx WG320 Cordless JawSaw is great for those who value great safety features.  (Image credit: Amazon)

The WORX JawSaw is a great alternative to a conventional chainsaw for smaller jobs around larger gardens or small farms. This lightweight, electric powered, cordless contraption offers a set of jaws that can handle one bough or a bunch of sticks up to a 34in diameter. Wrap the jaws around your target and a chainsaw tongue does the slicing for you.

At only 7lbs in weight, this saw is easy to carry around. You can cut directly on the ground or even lift it above your head to trim trees. Great for those with less upper body strength than is needed for a chainsaw.

WORX WG320 Cordless JawSaw: Price

The RRP is $149.99, but Amazon.com has this product available for $140.99 including a battery and charger, bar and chain oil, spanner wrench and 3-year manufacturer’s warranty, or $219.99 with 12 ft. extension pole.

WORX WG320 Cordless JawSaw: Features

WORX describe the JawSaw as the chainsaw reinvented, but this isn’t strictly true and it’s best to be upfront about the limitations – 4” diameter is the maximum cutting side for the 6” bar. That said, it does make light work of these smaller jobs, even though it’s only 5amps, and can cut smaller sticks in bundles as well.

Worx WG320 Cordless JawSaw: Specs

Weighs: 7.1lbs
Bar size: 6” bar and chain
Features: Cut or trim materials up to 4 inches in diameter, auto-tension feature guarantees optimum tension, automatic chain oiler with oil level indicator
Safety: Blade housing for safe cutting on the ground
Extras: 12ft extension pole available, MaxLithium battery can be shared with other WORX products
Noise: Quiet

The JawSaw is part of WORX PowerShare initiative, where if you have another WORX product the battery is interchangeable. The battery takes around 12 hours to charge, and only lasts for around 1 to 2 hours, so this is a useful feature as it means you can have two or three batteries charged up to power all your WORX products.

The chain guard offers excellent safety, and the auto tension makes this easy to use for the complete novice. There’s also an automatic chain oiler - you just need to keep the reservoir topped up.

At just 7.1lbs, it’s a very lightweight product, and is easy to handle even for those without the upper body strength usually needed for a chainsaw. It’s perfect for the larger urban garden.

Dan Maxey, reviewing this product for Tools In Action called it ‘a marvel of innovation’. He did note the chain fell off on first use, and he needed to adjust the auto tension system – something that a more seasoned tool user will have no trouble with.

ChainsawJournal describes WORX JawSaw as the ‘safer chainsaw’ with an ‘innovative design’. They note the metal housing means there is no risk from kickback. It is low maintenance and straightforward to use, making it a good choice for the novice chainsaw user.

WORX WG320 Cordless JawSaw: User reviews

Most customers seem to love the WORX JawSaw – it has a 76% 5-star rating on Amazon. The main draws seem to be its great flexibility for smaller jobs, good safety, and that it can be used by a wider range of customers than a classic chainsaw. The most common complaint is the short battery life, with some customers reporting that they had to return it straight out of the box due to the battery not charging. Others have commented that it really is at its best for the very small jobs. For some, the chain has fallen off repeatedly and so they have returned it, but this complaint seems to reoccur in just a small number of reviewers.

Ebay customers give this product 4.5 out of 5 stars, with 94% of purchasers saying they would recommend it. Some older reviewers have mentioned they struggled to lift the saw above their head with the extension pole. The majority of users like the safety of the WORX WG320 Cordless JawSaw.

If you are looking for a safe and effective saw for smaller jobs in and around a domestic garden, this could be the product for you. Easy to use, lightweight, safe and with a battery pack that can be shared with other WORX products, this is an innovative and cost effective saw with a universal appeal. If you think you are going to need something that cuts a bigger diameter, or for very frequent use, then perhaps stick with a classic chainsaw.
