Carrier is a reputable name and one of the largest manufacturers of residential and commercial HVAC equipment. It is one of the top brands on the market due to its wide variety of models and sophisticated technology, and is renowned for producing some of the best central air conditioners.

Carrier has three air conditioner series, and 16 models, offering plenty of choice to suit all needs and every budget. The Comfort Series are the more budget-friendly systems, offering units with a SEER efficiency rating between 14 and 16. The mid-range Performance Series offers two-stage compression to manage summer dehumidification, and a SEER rating up to 17.

The premium Infinity Series, meanwhile, offer the highest SEER ratings of up to 21, and also run the quietest – as low as 65 decibels. Their high efficiency and in-built dehumidifiers make them best suited for more hot and humid climates. Additionally, you can match your air conditioning system’s performance (single-stage, etc) to the thermostat, or take advantage of advanced features such as Wi-Fi, which is available on three of the four series.

Carrier central air conditioners review: Prices

Since Carrier is known for its reliability and quality, its prices reflect this. Its starting 13 SEER unit (Comfort 24ABB3) costs around $3,350-$4,285, and $4,500-$6,685 with installation. The premium 21 SEER unit (Infinity 24ANB1) costs around $5,250 for unit alone and up to $10,700 with installation. Carrier air conditioning units are expensive but are well built and known to last for years.

Carrier central air conditioners review: Installers

Proper installation is vital, and Carrier rely on their own certified technicians. Carrier Factory Authorized dealers must be certified by NATE, the North American Technician Excellence certification organization, so only certain HVAC contractors can install their air conditioning units. Prior to installation, they must go through extensive training at a Carrier factory to learn installation, maintenance and repair of Carrier products.

Carrier central air conditioners review: User reviews

The majority of customers were happy with the smooth running, performance of their Carrier air conditioner.

One user mentioned it takes very little time to warm or cool down their house, which was one of the things they didn’t have with their previous model. Others mentioned high efficiency and energy saving, seeing noticeable changes in their electricity bills. Users also praised the low noise levels and convenience of having a wide range of units to choose from.

The only downside seemed to be the high purchase costs of air conditioning units, compared to other brands. However, the long warranties available compensated for this.

Should you buy a Carrier central air conditioner?

For the greatest number of options of air conditioning units to match your specific requirements, Carrier is the best brand. It offers a wide range of affordable, quiet and energy-efficient units with convenient features. Ideal for hot or humid climates, Carrier air conditioners will also significantly reduce energy bills.

Bear in mind, the units are more expensive than those of other brands, and repair costs can prove significant. However, with proper installation by a Carrier-approved technician, it is unlikely you would experience any premature breakdowns.
