Why you can trust Top Ten Reviews Our expert reviewers spend hours testing and comparing products and services so you can choose the best for you. Find out more about how we test.

The Remington HyperFlex XR1470 has been around for a while now, and is designed to give you a satisfying shave. However, unlike with the best electric razors, that just isn't the case with this Remington razor. We found that it didn't provide a uniform shear, and even irritated our testers’ faces.

Users of rotary razors typically get less-smooth results than users of foil shavers. Further, based on our research and testing experience, your best bet for a truly clean shave is a manual razor. On the flip side, rotary razors can be quicker, easier and safer to use.

Remington HyperFlex XR1470: Design

We certainly have no complaints about how this Remington shaver looks. Clad in black and blue, and with a resolutely modern aesthetic, it's an eye-catching piece of kit alright. It also fits very nicely into the palm of your hand, the grips on the side of the shaver making it easy to control. It does feel a little heavy, but at least that gives you confidence that it's not going to fall apart easily.

Remington HyperFlex XR1470: Features

The HyperFlex XR1470 has a long-lasting battery that gives you 60 minutes of use time between charges. Its LED indicator tells you how many minutes you have left, so you won’t be caught off-guard with a low battery. Though a full recharge takes 90 minutes, which is longer than average, the shaver's quick-charge function can provide enough juice for a single charge if you don’t have time to wait. The HyperFlex XR1470 does not have a corded-use option. However, it does have a sturdy charging stand.

This electric razor is waterproof and can be used with shaving foam or gel. You can shave at the sink, in the shower or dry, and the HyperFlex XR1470 is washable under running water. Its shaving head flexes and pivots to follow the contours of your face, chin and neck, and – unique to this razor – its blades have an anti-microbial coating. The motor also has a turbo setting to give you a 10 per cent power boost when you’re shaving through denser facial hair. Like most modern electric razors, this Remington has a trimmer for detailing.

The HyperFlex XR1470 has universal voltage adaptation and a travel lock, but it doesn’t come with a travel pouch. Its warranty is a standard two years, and customer service is available by phone and email.

Should you buy the Remington HyperFlex XR1470?

Having spent some time with this shaver, it's hard to recommend it above other, similarly priced products. The battery life and some of the features are great, but we found that the HyperFlex XR1470 doesn't do a particularly good job of actually shaving.

If you’re looking for a really close shave, we recommend the Panasonic Arc4 ES-LA93-K. Our testers who used this foil shaver achieved excellent results. If you want a foil razor but are loyal to the Remington brand, we suggest you look at the Remington F8 WETech. With an MSRP of just $69.99, it represents excellent value.
