Also known as Hanwha Techwin, Samsung Techwin is a former subsidiary of Samsung Electronics. It produces very good home surveillance cameras with nighttime video quality that's on par with the best home surveillance systems. However, the installation, particularly internet connectivity, can be difficult if you're not familiar with changing advanced settings on your router. The customer support options from Samsung Techwin are decent.

In our tests, Samsung Techwin's daytime video clarity was excellent close to the camera, poor at 10 feet and very good past 20 feet. The system had decent contrast that helps present a detailed image, but nowhere near that of the top performers in our review.

At night, the Samsung Techwin system is the third best in our review. The home surveillance cameras record excellent video close to the camera and at a distance of 20 feet. At 10 feet, the video quality is a little lower, and at 30 feet, the video loses much of its effectiveness. There was almost no graininess in the nighttime video, which made it easy to spot a person's face up to 30 feet from the camera.

The Samsung Techwin system in our review supports up to and comes with four cameras. The NVR has a 1TB hard drive. While the controls are about the same as other systems in our comparison, the installation process was difficult. The Samsung Techwin requires a little more work than a system like Amcrest, which works almost as soon as you connect it to a router.

After installing the cameras, you need to navigate a complicated process in the user manual to view video over the internet. Some of the process involves changing your router's settings and linking to a remote server. Other systems in our review simply use a QR code to automatically perform this process, but you have to do it by hand with Samsung Techwin. This must be done before you can use the mobile app.

For technical support, you can contact Samsung Techwin via telephone or email. There is no option for live chat support. The system comes with a one-year warranty, which isn't as long as those of the best home surveillance systems.

Samsung Techwin competes well with other home surveillance systems in terms of video quality, especially at night. The installation process, however, isn't intuitive. There are better systems available that are easier to set up.
