The Maverick ET-735 digital grill thermometer uses Bluetooth to pair a transmitter with your iOS or Android device, and the free mobile app lets you set and monitor the temperature, create cook timers, and, most importantly, receive notifications.
To pair the transmitter with your phone, you push the Bluetooth button on the back of the BBQ thermometer. After that, you download Maverick's app and then choose from different types of meats and doneness levels. You can select preset temperatures for veal, lamb, pork, chicken, turkey, fish, deer, elk, moose and buffalo, and you also can create custom temperatures and meat presets.
This BBQ thermometer has a wireless range of 160 feet, which frees you to socialize during a barbecue and not worry about constantly keeping an eye on the grill.
The ET-735 supports up to four probes and has a 42-inch cord, so you can monitor the temperature of multiple cuts of meat on your grill at the same time. The app and the transmitter let you see the temperatures of each probe.
Two probes are included with this unit, which are 7 inches long and can read temperatures ranging from 32 to 572 degrees Fahrenheit. If you want additional probes, you can expect to pay about $20 for each. We really like that the probes for this thermometer are waterproof, which makes them easier to clean up. Washing a thermometer under running water is so much more convenient than just using a sponge or washcloth, especially when dealing with lots of sticky barbeque sauce. The majority of the probes in our testing could not be submerged.
Finding the app in the Apple App Store is a little difficult. Maverick says to search "BBQ Redi-Chek" in the App Store. However, the app is technically called "Redi-Chek." We like that the app has several adjustable settings. You can set an alarm for a high or low temperature, or you can set a timer on the app. Maverick allows you to use a countdown format or count-up timer. You can also make several adjustments, like reconfiguring temperature between Celsius and Fahrenheit.
The transmitter itself is made of a thick, hard plastic, and it's powered by two AAA batteries. You'll need a tiny Phillips screwdriver to replace the batteries. The front of the transmitter has a large, glass-covered display. The screen is also backlit, making it easy to read temperatures, even in the dark. The transmitter is water-resistant, so if water or juices spill on your thermometer, they won't ruin it.
This digital BBQ thermometer comes with a 90-day warranty, which is shorter than what other thermometers have. Fortunately, the company offers telephone and email support, and it has FAQs on its website. You also can access the instruction manual via the app.
