The Toro Personal Pace 20374 is a sturdy gas lawn mower with a design that is both user-friendly and accessible. We tested it and found it to be one of the best lawn mower options for small and midsized yards, thanks to its design and ability to adapt to different environments.

This Toro lawn mower has a blade width of 22 inches, which is above average and lets you cover a lot of ground. The noise level is 97.8 dB, which is slightly less disruptive than average for a self-propelled lawn mower. Some communities have rules on what noise levels are acceptable at what times, but this lawn mower keeps the noise to a reasonable minimum. If you need the most quiet lawn mower, consider the Craftsman 37744.

The mower's number of cutting positions is smaller than normal at only five, but we did not have any problems with the adjusted positions. The minimum cutting height is slightly lower than usual at just an inch, and the maximum came in at the highest we found, 4 inches. The mower earned an overall performance score of 85 percent.

The mower has a lot of convenient high points, including the variable all-wheel self-propulsion. This gives you a lot of freedom in how you can maneuver the lawn mower, which is useful in a small or winding area that requires more changes of direction than a straightforward back-and-forth mowing job. The lawn mower also has four-lever wheel height adjustment, which lets you adapt the mower to your environment. This mower’s primary shortcoming in terms of convenience features is the lack of cushioning on the handle, which caused soreness during testing.

The engine is small at just 159cc, which reduces the power of the mower for tackling thick or unruly grass. However, it performs well if you regularly maintain your yard, keeping the lawn in reasonably good shape. There is also side discharge, which is convenient for getting rid of clippings.

The model has a three-year warranty, which is average among gas lawn mowers. There is also email and phone support, which connects you to customer service representatives during business hours. The Toro site connects you with service centers, and you can download the instruction manual from the site as well.

While it might not be the best lawn mower for a thicket of unruly grass, the Toro Personal Pace 20374 has enough power to keep a small or midsized yard trimmed and maintained. With adjustable features, it has our recommendation for anyone with a diverse but not wildly overgrown landscape.
